Exhaust smoke
Not sure where this belongs, since it isn’t exactly a ”problem”. Today I did a WOT fly by on my dad and uncle, and they said my car was smoking when I went by (17 SS A8). I asked what color and they said white, not thick smoke but noticeable. Car doesn’t consume oil or coolant. Could this just be the crud in the cats burning off from the WOT run?Just curious. FYI the car has a mishimoto catchcan, although I don’t think that has anything to do with it. I don’t baby the car, but I don’t exactly abuse it either.
Any input is welcome. |

You're probably running rich - I believe all the LT1's and LT4's do. It could also be water vapor burning off if they car hadn't been running too long before you did the flyby.

either water vapor or just unburned oil residue in the cats. It is normal if you drive mainly low mid range RPM's. You should do the WOT from time to time to "clean" the outlet and exhaust.

Yea the car was definitely fully warmed up, I had been driving at highway speeds for about 35 miles. I think it was probably just burn off from the cats. Or maybe the car is running a bit rich. Maybe a CAI and ported TB and IM will help lean out that richness a bit. Either way, I was just wondering if anyone else had experienced anything similar.
Thanks for the input guys |

I blew by my wife one day and she said I smoked her when I shifted. The car has 65000 miles on it and doesn't consume or burn a drop of oil between changes so I don't know what produced the smoke. I know darn well there isn't any oil blow by.

Yea, my car has ~12k and doesn’t burn any oil, at least not enough to be detected on the dip stick. Just a little concerning when it is smoking enough for others to notice.

I have noticed when watching LT1 dyno videos that at around 5500 rpms there almost always is a little puff of white smoke. I think in WOT situations the ECU goes a little rich on the high RPM end. I'm sure the tuning experts will correct me if my amateur guess is wrong.

Mine did it on the dyno right after the initial wot pull. A few weeks later I floored it in front of my girlfriend, and she said there was smoke as well. When i saw it on the dyno it was more dark than light, but not black. The car had 6500 miles on it at the time so I just chalked it up to blowing out carbon build up. /shrug

Good to know that this is apparently normal. What's odd is I've seen my dad go wide open in his scat pack Challenger dozens of times and I've never noticed any smoke from his car.
What's also odd is that my Camaro also seems to edge out the challenger every time also |

Challenger weighs more than the Titanic.... While the Scat Pack is up 30 HP, Camaro weighs 400-500 lb. less than the Challenger. |

People have said this to me too, that they saw smoke...
I said what color?...."white" I was just thinkin' that it was tire smoke. Whenever I heard this I was hammerin' on second gear. And this car can break them loose in second and third gear. I thought I was and they were trippin'. I'll keep an eye out for this and ask people. Thanks for posting. |
