Had diff fluid changed out last week on the 3rd. Hadn't noticed any noise the following day, and haven't been able to drive because of the snow and extreme cold this past weekend. Took it into work today, and had no diff noise/groan while making any turns. But the noise didn't surface until around 6-7k miles...So I'll reserve judgment on whether or not the fluid change really did fix it or not. Right now it's good, but only time will tell

The dealership changed the fluid once, and I still have the problem. Heard the noise and think it was less severe. Did the figure 8 break-in procedure. Still heard the noise and called the dealership and they told me I needed more miles on it before they look at it again. Car is now in winter storage, so we'll get back at it in March/April.

V6 and I4 models equipped with the manual transmission have limited-slip differentials, as well.

Two days this week the temperature was 10 degrees F and lower, driving away thru turns that normally produce the groan, the groan was not present. A day later the temperature was above 30 degrees F the groan returned. I have not had the fluid changed yet.

Mine had it since new but it was just barely noticeable. Got worse as the miles piled up. When winter hit with sub freezing temps it got very noticeable and I took it in for a check up. The dealership saiif the clutches were heavily worn and ordered a new diff. I have about 750 miles on the new diff with no noise. I'll be changing the fluid here soon. Hope it's fixed for good. Car has 26,xxx on it now.

I changed the fluid once, the dealer did it twice (per the bulliten) and the 4th time they didn't question. They just ended up replacing the carrier. keep in mind that my car had about 1500 miles when it all started. replaced at 2215 miles. I'm now at 2340.

11100 miles on my early 2016 1SS A8
Just got my car back after 3way Chevy replaced the rear diff. We will soon see if the noise comes back. My guess is that it will come back in another 5k miles.

I recently had the rear diff fluid replaced on my 2016 1SS by the dealer due to the groan noise during slow turns on cold starts. The tech stated if the groan returns, theyll have to replace the whole differential. It's been over a week since taking it into th dealer, and not a peep so far. Fingers crossed this issue doesn't arise again

Rear Diff Groan

My 16 SS had the groan. Dealer replaced the rear diff. Groan went away for few months, now the groan is back only hear it in the am early. I'm sure it will get worse. Love the car!!!

Dealerships are retarded. They 'couldn't duplicate the noise' and said the notices I showed them are simply repair notes. I said, screw it... it breaks you have to fix it anyway.

I'm looking to buy a 2017 1ss in the spring. Does this groan happen to the new models or just the 2016 model?

I'm also going to be getting an auto trans. Are there any problems with the torque convertor on the 2017 models?

Need 2 more options:
1) Took to dealer and they said it was normal.
2) Differential actually physically failed and had to be replaced.

If the dealer is right, and it is normal, you should get 0 votes for "Differential failed".

I think the poll may require some guidance or mileage based mandate. I have about 1k on my car and I have been reluctant to participate in the poll because I don't want to skew the results since my mileage is lower than when this issue seems to most typically start. Maybe only participate if you have a min of 10k miles?
