I have a 2013 1LE highly modified for road course driving. Mostly drive Watkins Glen. About a month ago, I was sideways through the bus stop. The sideways slide started at 78 mph and went over the third rumble strip sideways.....no airbag deployed.

All nanny buttons off. Never made contact with anything but slid a long way!

Would be interesting to see stats in deployed bags.

Year, model, engine, trans, settings

2010 SS/RS LS3, all nannies off, slid out a couple times overdriving auto-X over the years. No problems in 4 seasons except driver stupidity.

Is 2011 the common denominator so far?

Bannon got his from the black box. The G load it showed was, imo, impossible to generate under the conditions in which he was running and operating, but they did. From the information I have gathered the side curtain bags deploy during a motorsport event when the computer calculates a potential rollover.

Steve_RS_Camaro was on a rumble strip with the associated vibration. In my personal experience since 2009 in Camaros of all years that I have been at the track with I have seen only one air bag deployment. It was the Lingenfelter L/28 when the drive shaft coupling failled during an AC run. The violence of the banging haft tripped all the bags.

In general, it is not a concern. In terms of safety, if things go really wrong, you want your air bags to deploy. If you have a cage, racing seats, helmets, HANs and harnesses get rid of the bags. If not, leave them in and leave them on.

The airbag fuse is easy to pull. Just pull it when you track or autocross.
What year was his car? As far as I know, it's fixed in later model years.

It'll take a lot of speed or some obstruction to roll this car. Can't see it happening for auto-X. I've peaked a couple time at 1.2g lateral, but mostly between 1.0-1.1g on turns using iPhone and HLT. Hopefully computer doesn't see a false positive roll-over data situation. Not too worried about it.

I've heard that 2010 & 2011 are easier to deploy the side airbags than 2012+.

That's just heresay, though. However I can attest I've autocrossed and done some stupid stuff, and none of mine have gone off.

After two off track excursions this weekend, both sideways on a road course I can say the air bags did not deploy at all. One stayed on pavement, the other was sideways through the grass. No issues here.

My r6p car has seen a lot of track time... Sideways, back ways, air, gravel, grass, rumbles, blah blah. The only one I trust that I read was banonnm who found his sensor was showing some rocket ship like G's.

Please don't pull the fuse on your car made to crumple around you.

This happened to a 2011 Camaro at an autocross I was at two weekends ago. I was in grid, so I didn't see it, but I heard it go off. The driver said he was going through the Chicago box. The car never hit anything, but the event was on an oval race track, so perhaps the small amount of banking was a contributing factor.
