Tcm from hp tuner unlocked help

I ordered a new unlocked tcm for my 18 a8 ss.
Followed instructions to swap tcm which worked fine, but keep comes up as cannot read
Anyone have a fix?

That is normal. The TCM is not readable, even unlocked. Just make your tune changes and upload it, and make sure you save your changes on your laptop. Even after you flash it, you will not be able to retrieve it from the TCM. That's why you need to save it on your laptop for when you want to make changes.

OP, indeed this is to be expected, mine is the same if that's any relief.

Josh, do you happen to know why the TCM isn't readable even after unlocking? Where does that stock TCM tune that HP Tuners "downloads" from the car come from?

So I save the file and send off to pray?
I just assumed it was not unlocked when it said unreadable

No idea, but HP Tuners unlock service just allows you to flash the TCM. The file that you download is the stock generic TCM file, so it’s a safe starting point. Just save your file after each change before you flash it in so that you can always go back to a previous version if need be. Name the saved file with each change since you can’t just download it to see where you’re at... it’s easy to get confused after a bunch of changes otherwise. Lol
