Cquartz ceramic coating fails my testing- water spots PICS HERE

I have been testing a ceramic coating on my own car. I applied CarPro Cquartz and topped it with CarPro Gliss because Gliss was supposed to prevent water spots. Less than 2 months later, here are water spots:

They are all over the hood. They will not rub off with detail spray. Looks like a polish job is in order and about $80 down the drain. I will probably go back to a polymer sealant like McKee's Polymer Sealant or Chemical Guys Jet Seal.

1 part CLR to 5 parts distilled should take that off.

Yes, but that's not the point. I was testing ceramic coatings in order to determine if I recommend ceramic coatings to my customers. Its hard to recommend CQuartz when it claims to prevent water spots. But I have water spots.

I tested your theory. CLR 1:5 failed to remove waterspots.

Wow that’s pretty bad.

Edit: perhaps a stronger acid is needed. Have you tried anything containing phosphoric acid like Geyon water spot remover? or Carpro Spotless..

Not sure it will help if that spot is in the paint vs on it, but wth it might save a few hrs of polishing...

And yeah I agree ya cannot recommend that coating as spot resistant... bummer.

I do this for a living so polishing off the water spots is really easier for me than using water spot removers. Without great lighting or sunlight you can miss spots, but I know I wont miss any with the polisher. I can knock out polishing a Camaro pretty quickly.

I put this CQuartz on as a test. I got it cheap from one of my suppliers.

My personal preference on my own vehicle is polymer sealant topped with synthetic wax, but the coatings are very popular so I wanted to be an expert.

I have used Opti Gloss Coat before, it's a good product. All ceramic coatings are suceptible to water spots though. That's the big disadvantage and also why "topper" products like CarPro Gliss are being developed.

Yea that's one thing I don't like about coatings is they can get water spots. I think i'll probably stick with sealants and waxes like you since I like to polish once a year so no need to polish off a coating and apply it every year. I'm planning on giving Polish Angel Master Sealant and there waxes a try within the next few weeks once I get my car polished. I've heard amazing things about their products so i'm excited to give them a try.

I don’t understand the waterspot complaint. Everyone knows ceramic doesn’t solve the issue of water spotting. Are you saying sealants reject water spotting?

CarPro Gliss is marketed to prevent water spots.

Never had water spots before using poly sealants, SiO2 sealants or wax.

I got bad water spots with Reload one time when I used to have my SRX, went to Hilton Head for the week and the sprinklers from the rental we stayed in got all over the truck, couldn't get them out, had to end up stripping, polishing and resealing. Was very hard water there.

I posted in another thread a while back. You name the coating they wont stop water spots. Sad but true. I still love the coatings for the other benefits but it sucks they don't stop the water spotting.

Do you think the ceramic coating water spots worse than a car that just has polymer or carnauba wax on it?

Definitely. I have never had water spots like this before when using polymer or wax. Nothing out of the ordinary about this rain. It rained on Wednesday and I washed it on Friday.
