Tire is inside out. What to do?
I just put my stock wheels back on for summer with Michelin PS4S tires. As I was coating the wheels with ceramic, I realized one of my front tires was mounted inside-out by Costco. I'm only now realizing this after the tires have somewhere around 10-12K miles. What should I do about this? It seems like having the tire remounted in the correct orientation would not be advisable since it has so many miles on it already. Will it be fine to just leave it as is?

Go back and tell them you want a new tire.
Make a big deal about safety and that you will call head office.

I'd second Jerome's suggestion and get them to remount the tire correctly. Should be good to go after that.

I'd like to see a picture of this...there's no way that could look correct enough to run 10K miles before you realize it. Or at least that is what I think in my head as I have never seen an inside out tire live on a wheel on a car.

What's really asymmetric about these tires is the tread compound, so yes, the tire should be remounted ASAP. |

Most tires are not directional, so they can be on either side of the car, rotating in one direction or the other.
What type of tire you have is AWAYS indicated on the sidewalls. Asymmetric tires are marked "OUTSIDE". Directional tires are marketed with an arrow and "ROTATION". Some tires are both directional and asymmetric, and can't be swapped side to side. They have both markings. Some tires are directional only, and can be on either side of the car, but only by remounting to preserve directional orientation. Any real tire shop knows this, just not the kid mounting tires at Costco. |
