Slight tinge of regret for not holding out until 2019 Refresh

Absolutely love my 2018 2SS 1LE. Researched and thought about replacing my M235i with a 1LE as soon as they were announced two years ago. I obsessed over the 1LE for those two years. The availability of the 1LE with the 2SS finally pushed me to pulling the trigger.

I bought the 2018 a few weeks prior to the refresh. Now that I see the refresh, I do have a few minor regrets. I stress they are MINOR. The things I do prefer with the 2019 (at least on paper) are:
  • Hood styling
  • Tail Lights
  • Next Gen MyLink Infotainment
  • Improved Rear Camera
  • Rear Camera Mirror

If I could have just one of those improvements on my car, it would probably be the rear camera mirror. It seems to solve the majority of visibility issues while keeping the cool styling. Next would be the hood, though I am not unhappy with the 2018 hood.

As far as the 2019 front end, I don't love it or think it's necessarily an improvement over the 2018, but I don't hate it either. I could live with it, given that I would be getting the improvements listed above.

If I had waited one more month and seen the refresh before buying the 2018, I honestly don't know what I would have done. I wanted the car now, so the additional 6 month or more wait might have been unbearable... but on the other hand, it wasn't like I didn't already have a pretty fun car to bide my time with.

hah I think there will always be some buyers remorse after you see a refresh but look at it this way, on a 1LE, the things that matter(suspension, power, ediff) as of right now have not changed.

Naw, no buyers remorse for this. Things I got with the 2SS were the dealbreakers already. Now that bmw M2 competition looks nice, but probably further erodes the value of the M2 as far as cost to performance, if it adds 10-20k on top of the existing M2 with m-drivers package.

Ya when I saw the refresh I was immediately thankful I didn't wait too long to order my 2018. If I had to wait and order a 2019 I'd have rather bought a Mustang...

No amount of fancy infotainment, or fancy rear mirrors will outweigh the looks of the 2019, and I'm sure you'll see values reflect that soon enough on the used market when the time comes...

My thoughts exactly re new styling. I do like it as a package that looks different from the original. The front end is polarizing but it works in a retro way. There were some RL pix in a general thread of an SS in a new red and it looked awesome. As with the original the 1LE treatment will also make it much better overall.
If i were in a market id defo get another 1LE.

Glad I picked up the '18 instead of waiting.

I think the 2019 looks fine...I personally prefer the front end of the '18 2SS that I got, just seems more aggressive to my eye. I'm neutral on the taillight change. The other things you listed are no biggie to me, either.

If I have a small regret, it's that maybe I could have waited a little longer, with the possibility that the refresh might make for better deals on the 2018 models. I got a decent deal for mine, but every little bit counts in a family budget.

I'm kind of in the same boat as you. I've been interested in the car since it was announced, and when I was looking to purchase last fall, I did contemplate on waiting for the 2019 refresh. However, to be honest, the only reasons for that would have been mechanical. Given that the 2019 gets no power bump and no performance advantage, I much prefer the look of the 2018. The other stuff is negligible...
  • Hood styling - subjective, prefer 2018 split extractors
  • Tail Lights - subjective, needs to see bubble taillights on a 1LE
  • Next Gen MyLink Infotainment - next gen, but no new features added, and it's not as if the current gen sucks. It's rather excellent actually
  • Improved Rear Camera
  • Rear Camera Mirror - The last two are definitely an improvement, but I honestly do not have a complaint about visibility at all. Most can't stand the tight feel of the cockpit, but I don't even notice it as I'm driving and see everything around me just fine.

I was skeptical that the refresh might make me regret my purchase, instead it reinforced that I made the right chance by jumping on a great deal last November and not having to wait.
