Cheaper front camera install NAV-TV box

Hi Guys!
I wanted to save a few bucks adding a front camera to my ZL1. The NTV-KIT629 box costs $399. The NAVTV company is about 20min from my house so I went with them in case I needed tech support. turns out it was so easy I didn't need any support. Cheap amazon camera cost $20 bucks, toggle switch $5 bucks.
I did a video on the install, hope it helps some people.

Thanks and great job on the video. A front camera is high on my list of things I must get done before I smash up the front spoiler on a curb. When I test drove these I couldn’t understand why people complained about the visibility so much and then after I bought it and started having to park it I understood, you can’t tell where the front of the car ends.

I don’t understand why the Camaro did not at least come from factory with front parking sensors.

Thanks for the feedback guys!
Reason I went this route was because it was the cheaper way out. other solutions cost much more money and you need to splice into other factory connecters and get a new HMI box or have the HMI box reprogrammed. I didn't want that for warranty issues down the road. Just a FYI, guy at NAVTV told me that if I had a curb alert you can use that to trigger the NAV box and not have a toggle switch.

$$$

There's a reason the SS costs $38-40k instead of $70-75k (BMW M4).

Thanks for the video, this is a nice solution, great idea about curb alert activation, too I installed a 1LE splitter and haven't scratched or cracked it so far, but who knows, it only takes one mistake.

Thinking about dropping the glove box again makes me shiver, though, I already did it once for the spectrum footwell lighting (remember that rectangular cutout at the bottom of the panel under the glove box? that's where it goes), and swore never again... I bought an endoscope cam in the meantime, maybe it's possible without putting my head into the footwell for half an hour, struggling with those ##&@*ly placed rear bolts.

Those bottom 4 bolts are a PITA but it all worked out in the end, LOL.
Thats why there was no film on the HMI connections, I test fitted that lower panel back in place and got lucky it lined up the 1st time, I was like F the camera I gotta do this NOW!

I have seen a few of these mods with different solutions. I was wondering if anyone just thought of getting a couple extra sensors like the one on the rear (if so equiped) and just wire tap into the same lines as the rear sensors and have your warnings all going through the factory equipment. Seems like a cheap solution to me, just a couple sensors and some wire. Maybe some heat shrink and solder or wire tap if you are feeling really spendy.

My wife drives a Mazda6 that has 360 degree cameras and it cost less than 40K.

I'm not here to defend GM, they are definitely scroogy and love to drag their feet when it comes to up to date electronics and software, but a Mazda6 isn't comparable to a Camaro SS, even in a(n unfair) 2020 vs 2016 comparison. The BMW M4 is, except it has all the modern electronics and convenience features people sometimes miss in our car.

So do you have to have the NAV installed on the Camaro to utilize this camera? Is there any other options for a front camera if that's the case? Thanks !

if I understand the question, you do NOT have factory NAV?
Do you have a rear camera that displays in the radio?
