Active Exhaust

Hello, I have been asking around but haven’t got anywhere. I just bought a new 2020 Camaro 2SS. It has everything I wanted except the active exhaust. I was curious if it was possible for me to buy the active exhaust now and have it installed or if it was only an option when the car is being ordered from Chevy directly. Any advice would be great!

Well it's not going to fit for one unless you get a new valance that allow for the quad tips. And I don't know if the functionality will be there since you didn't get NPP in the first place.
If I were you, I'd do what I did; just get an aftermarket axleback exhaust with dual tips (Borla S-type)
It will:
1-Sound better than the OEM NPP (active) exhaust
2-I'm fairly certain my Borla tips are bigger all around than the NPP.
3-Cost around $800 plus installation (if you don't do it yourself). I paid $730 on Amazon 6 months ago for mine.
4-The adjustable exhaust modes you won't have but it's a worthless feature for me b/c I love the sound all the time. But I also don't leave the house early mornings and start the car so no need to have any "quiet" mode.

You can get the quad tips BUT you wont get the NPP valve functionality.

Ok thank you both. I wasn’t sure if I still had the opportunity to do that or not. If I get the Borla exhaust how much louder would it be compared to the active exhaust cause I live in a densely residential area in Florida and these people complain about everything. I got fined before with my 2010 Camaro rs when I had a muffle delete done.

The Borla S-type is sort of the same volume as the OEM NPP in sport mode. It's definitely not annoyingly loud. It's fairly tame when driving at regular speeds. It is loud on initial cold start in the morning but then quiets down. A muffler delete usually is VERY loud (and usually sounds like crap).

I can't see getting in trouble with it for the sound, unless you're intentionally mashing the throttle in neutral cruising through strip malls (like many idiots do where I live). If you seriously live in that stringent an environment, ANY aftermarket exhaust is going to be an issue.

I know you can do almost anything in Florida but if you have close neighbors I would do the S-type or MF Competition. I went with MF and love it. Very stealthy until you get on it and push some air.

Muffler deletes are always loud. Go to a camaro gathering and listen to others. Borla makes nice stuff.

Since you don't have NPP anyway, consider an AWE touring exhaust with their custom drone attenuation tech. I'd get the quad tip version and upgrade to the matching GM rear valance for a killer look.

The axleback system made by Borla and sold thru GMPP might be an alternative exhaust you could consider too. It’s pricey but not as compared to some other aftermarket systems and GM Performance Parts sells them if you want a system that is sold thru GM. It has the dual tips like your exhaust now and not the quad tip optional NPP exhaust.

What I found so far was buying directly from Borla and it will be $1,000. I will be able to install it myself so the price isn’t too bad. I would like to get it with quad tips just to up the appearance. By chance do u have a link to a place that sells them??

That sells what? You'll nave to get the NPP style axelback plus replace the rear diffuser with an NPP one. I'm sure GM's website sells that part.

Summit Racing has 2 Chevrolet Performance exhaust systems listed for the SS, 84028865-for Camaro without ground effects kit and 84028867 with ground effects. Chevrolet Performance is the new name for GM Performance Parts. They fit 2016-2018 and have dual tips like you have. You must change out your diffuser panel to add a 4 tip exhaust. Borla may offer a quad tip exhaust so check on their website.
