Thank you.

I have stock tires for sale if you’re interested man. I’m dying to get rid of these things for Michelin’s.

I’d be willing to meet up with you somewhere to save on the shipping. Let me know.

Found a new dealer that will do the 0w-40 with my first included maintenance oil change. However they say I must pay the difference in cost. $4.04 per quart difference. Is the 0w-40 that much more expensive than the Mobil 5w-30 dexos that GM uses?

I drank the koolaid on this for my last oil change, but for next one I will likely go back to Mobil 1 5W-30. ESP is probably not worth it for the way I use the car. Hard to get any useful info from anyone about it, especially GM.

Guys,

Don’t want to put 100$ in the box but....
Initial OEM oil : 5w30 dexos II
Recommend now : 0w40 dexos II

Wallmart propose 0w30 dexos II

Is that better than 5w30?
It looks like it’s between the 2 listed....

What do you think?

The recommended fill for the ZL1 and ZLE is,
Mobil one 0w-40 Dexos II ESP

I believe the wal-mart oil is NOT esp.

It’s dexos2 exact same label than 5w30 OEM!
Initial 5w30 d2 is not esp...

The Walmart oil is not the endorsed oil. It is Mobil 1 ESP 0W40. Not sure why so many people are struggling with this.

"Endorsed" is the right term, the only thing better about Mobil 1 Dexos 2 from a GM standpoint is that they make money from Mobil 1 if customers choose that brand. So they have a contract to use it at dealers, and promote it with Mobil 1 oil caps, etc.

Any Dexos 2 5w30, 0w30, 0w40 or 5w40 will be fine and not void your GM warranty. Dexos 2 is the GM warranty stamp of approval and combined with the proper weights, it is all you need from a warranty standpoint.

That being said, I prefer Mobil 1 Dexos 2, and Valvoline Dexos 2 becuause they're cheap and available. Both are listed in the ZL1 manuals as approved by GM. But if money was no object I might use the Motul, Amsoil or Redline Dexos 2 oils. They're expensive.

Curious if you guys are changing your own oil on this car cause of 1) Convenience and 2) Don't want others messing with your car.

As far as Cost in my area, I am not sure i want to bother for the small savings. My dealer is $89 and i know my warranty is intact. All my other cars for the last 39 years i changed my own oil. Not sure i want to bother if i am only saving $10-15 for this one.

I wouldn’t let a dealer or any tech touch my car or lawnmower.

I am a gear head.
I derive pleasure from working on all my mechanical things wether it be lawnmowers, motorcycles or cars.
I like good tools, gadgets and all things in my garage.

Having to schedule a time at a dealer, going there, waiting and wondering if the job will be done correctly is not what I like to do.
My cars go to the dealer for mandatory recalls only or warranty work.
I actually like changing oil on my time, knowing it was done right.

In 8 years I never had an issue with work done by dealer on my Evo X, which I had free lifetime oil changes on--not a single issue.

I took my ZL1 to Keyes in Van Nuys for an oil change and tire swap to MPS4S and in one visit they installed the wrong oil filter, damaged one of my GY F1 3Rs, and put 3 dents in a fender. They accepted responsibility for none of it. I'm lucky they didn't strip threads in oil drain plug. Beware of Chevy dealer service.

Performing your own maintenance and changing you oil in no way affects your vehicle warranty.

I do my own oil because it is easy.
