DIY knee pad covers

I got some blue and black 'leather' and made myself some knee pad covers. Took a little while to get the sewing machine settings right and figure out how to fold the seams and hold them for sewing, but I think they came out pretty good for an amateur. I attached the covers with a hot glue gun.

I didn't want to go solid blue for the top and bottom, i think the black on top matches the existing door pad a little better and all blue would stand out too much.

I'd love to recover the door pad and the pads at the top of the door panel, but it looks like a lot of work to pull the panel and top pad out and then re-attach it.

Nice job! How did you manage to hide the fact that you have multiple layers underneath the black leather? When I did mine, I had to do a layer of felt so that the stack up everywhere is somewhat equal.

Very nice job btw!

Have a look at my thread where I show how I did mine.

yes, these are very well done. Excellent job. Really. Having been the first one to try this, I know how difficult it is on the right angles and corners.

A work friend's son started working for an upholsterer, so he brought in the fabric samples books for me to look through. He ordered a yard of each for me. The black is almost a perfect match to the original in color, sheen and texture, and the blue matches really well with hyper blue metallic. I think that's why the job looks as good as it does, the blues in the pictures are a perfect match and the color really pops against the black interior. I didn't write the name down of the fabric type or color, I asked my friend if he can look it up for me.

No, just the cheap hard plastic.

I did put 1/ 8 inch thick foam padding under the fabric in the door pads, it didn't look right without it because it's so close to the arm rest. The center console ones, no padding. If you look close at my first pic you can see the difference.

Thanks I'm definitely interested in the black leather PN or name so that i can replicate. I wonder if this two tone setup would work well with other colors. I have the white but i don't think it match as well. The blue/black is absolutely jaw dropping though.
