I imagine it has something to do with speed and the length of the pull.

The main reason why we don't run them in 6th is because dyno speed limitation and the length of the pull when using a load bearing dyno like our Mustang Dyno.

I had a few pulls on a dynojet this past fall and I had much better numbers in the 5th gear. I have an A8. So is there some 'hidden hp' that I could get if done in 6th gear? This is the first I am hearing of this possibility...

Yes dyno pulls should be done in 6th

for those of you who do not know; the reason why 6th gear is recommended on the dyno pull is because it's your 8L90 transmission's 1:1 ratio gear.

This means that the transmission isn't over-driving or under-driving.

Ted, Thank you for this info. Also thank you for the TB! I just realized you are the shop I purchased the Vmax from.

Does anyone know if that Dynojet can take 6th gear on the 6th Gen Camaro SS? Or is it the same case as with the Mustang Dyno? (pull to long, limitations of the machine?)

They most certainly dont have to be and a lot of shops dont use 6th for the a8’s or 7th for the A10’s.

You are welcome, thank you for your business.

Yes Dynojet will be no problem.

Ted.

This is the very dilemma I am in. I had a VERY reputable tuner, tune my C7 and he was simply amazing. I initially had Rick at Synergy tune the car and the guy completely shit the bed. I got service soon lights, it was rich, and fouled plugs every 1500 miles. It was pretty sad given this guy is considered a LS god. I am sure he has gotten better but wasn't willing to own his lack of knowledge of the LT early on. My new tuner was SPOT ON!!!! He made my car a daily if I wanted and it has absolutely NO ISSUES. I recently asked him about tuning the Camaro with just the blower and a transmission tune. It is $1550 WOW!!!! I am actually sticker shocked so I am considering a remote tune since this build is pretty straight forward. If you want to get the best tune possible by a tech on the ground. Call Matt at GPX. He is the best in the business but it does come at a cost.
