I didn't follow and never do follow any of that shat.

1500 oil change and that's pretty much it besides a little avoidance of WOT/redline, I drive them from day one like I intend to drive it everyday.

You will get answers from both sides. Many of us follow the instructions included in the manual, trusting that the engineers suggestions for a break in routine are correct, while folks on the other side will tell you about people that build performance engines that tell you to hammer it soon after the engine is done.

Myself, I follow the manual. In my opinion, the engine builders are correct for their applications, but they typically build engines that they warranty for 100,000 miles.

It remains your choice.

Its the sort of the thing that people want one and the manuf thinks that they need one to protect their liability. It's not that's its necessary, for the engine. (per se) Pair that up with the angst and anxiety plagued amongst us...

I followed the manual as far as driving habits and also changed my oil at 500, 1000 and then 3000 miles regularly thereafter. Changed my diff fluid at 500, 1000 and then every spring when my ZLE comes out of winter hibernation.

Same here. I made sure I changed all the fluids religiously and way before they needed to be.

OP
Beautiful ZL1.
This is my second ZL1.
I had a 2021 and a 2022.
I didn’t follow any break in procedure.
I ran it hard from the moment I left the Dealership.
I changed the Engine Oil at 500 miles. I changed the Rear Axle at 1000 miles.

Break in.

I didn’t do any break in. I bought my car in Delaware and had to get back to Hershey pa. I road rallied all the back. Had a blast. My engine builder would go from putting a motor together. We would go straight to the engine dyno. It would be brought up to temperature. Then hammer down on the first pull to get timing set. I’m course all oil pressures and temps are monitored. But that’s how race motors are treated. At mostly all levels of racing dirt or drag etc. now my car is over 870whp. Still running strong

I did “spirited” stop and go driving for the first 300ish miles, including some hard WOT pulls. I then drove the car around 1400 miles across the country. I tried to vary speeds, hit some off/on ramps and do some highway pulls along the way. Never had any issues since and car doesn’t require adding any oil between oil changes.

Apparently the engineers who have been designing Chevy engines for decades know less about break-in than do keyboard warriors.
