1 7/8" or 2" headers for a ZL1?
I just bought my zl1 and I'm planning on doing on doing basic bolts ons (intake, headers, e85 tune, and exhaust).
Do I need to get 2" headers or will 1 7/8" work for it? I'm new to the supercharged world and some advice would be much appreciated. thank you! |

Depends on your power goals. You can make a lot of power on 1 7/8” headers…. I’d probably put the threshold for upgrading to 2” headers at 800-850 WHP & up. But for the basic bolt ons you’ve described, 1 7/8” is perfectly fine.

okay awesome! thank you so much for the information. i might be planning on going with a ported blower and smaller upper pulley as well as a bigger TB eventually. do you think ill still be fine with the 1 7/8 with those mods? also do you know anything about speed engineering headers? good? bad?

I’m not a fan of lower priced headers from overseas. I know some on this board have had good luck, but thinner walled headers typically cause false knock that results in power loss. You can tune around it but it’s not worth the hassle, I’d just get Kooks or American Racing and get it over with (coated, of course).

Don’t forget CSP. That’s what I have with the ultra CATs and fit was great and perform well. Had Jet Hot put their higher end coating on…. Only available in 2” though.

CSP 2" long tube headers ! I put these on my new 2023 ZL1 and they fit like a glove and look great too. I went with the ultra flow cats, deleted secondary cats and then straight to the Corsa Xtreme NPP axle back! Great combo and my car sounds great !

Agreed, go with quality long tube headers. Not a place to go cheap. Fit and finish of overseas headers is wildly inconsistent. ARH 2 inch headers here, fit, finish and install all excellent.

I went with Kooks on my builds. Very quality pieces. Made right up the street from me

Thank you for everyone's amazing feedback and advice! the only thing that sucks for me is i can't buy what i want since i live in California and emissions laws out here suck so i cant really get anything delivered. i've been trying to rely on the second hand market but unfortunately i havent had any luck. if anyone has any 2" cooks or CSp longtube headers or knows anyone selling them please let me know!

Stainless Works recommends a 2inch header on a supercharged engine.
