this thing is badass. i give them MAJOR kudos for even doing it.

my only problem is the scarcity of them and only special people/flippers are getting them anyway so meh...takes the fun out of it for me.

I see that they've changed from their preferred Nitto NT 555 RII to the MTETSR for this car. I'm not sure if their lesser powered cars still run the Nitto NT 555 RII. This is relevant for me because I must change to a stickier tire in the near future and haven't had good luck with the Mickeys on the road.

Coming of age in an era of 180 HP Camaros, 220 HP Trans Ams and 225 HP L82 Vettes, I never thought I’d see another car close to my 1973 290 HP Super Duty Trans Am. A 650 HP Camaro? A 1000 + HP Challenger? From the factory. I am just enjoying the moment, regardless of anything else. Wow!!!!

The original Demon used an NT05R. The new one uses MT ET Street R because there's no way to get that much power to the ground without them.

The biggest advantage the Demon would have over the OP would be the 60ft
Unlikely the Demon will run its advertised times all day either. The original Demon didn't come close. Conditions will need to be ideal - track prep, DA, launch dialed in, tail wind

And kudos to Dodge for keeping msrp at around $100k, even though they could have easily sold all 3k of them for a lot more.
$100K is a bargain for this car but good luck actually getting one near that price

I wonder how reliable this engine is now though....

It's also a $100k (after gas guzzler and transport fee) before you add options. Dodge is doing an interesting and great finally run for sure. But are taking everyone to the bank doing so.
This isnt comparable to a COPO car because the COPO is not a streetcar.

I don't think that's correct. This makes it read like a streetable car https://www.motortrend.com/news/2023...-hp-632-ci-v8/

Again. Not comparing the COPO and Demon in THAT way.

I'm talking about the engine build meant to take abuse. Yea it's 1000 HP vs 5xx HP COPO's but Chevy now has a 1000 HP engine ready.

It took Dodge a number of engines to get it right. Yea, you don't hear anything about how many engines Chevy messed up getting it right with the COPO. I take it as if you don't hear anything then that means they got it right from the get go with the engines they have on hand.

All the while, Dodge could have just looked on forums and found what other Hellcat owners were using while they were pushing 1000+rwhp and had made this new Demon without messing up any engines.

Hi Guys, so a little off topic to the Demon , so back in the days 1976 to 2003 , when I Drag Raced 11.99 was the threshold , you needed a 8point roll bar. So has this changed, I Raced my then 22 1SS last year 12.17 @114 . Now having my ZL1 and low 11s ET , is a Roll Bar required . So here is a screenshot NHRA site rules, Iooks like things haven't changed much 11.49 to 11.0 roll bar required 10.99 quicker roll cage mandatory. If I understand this I cand exceed 11.49 ET .

I don't believe a Gen 6 ZL1 requires a roll cage above 9.00.

Nope, doesn't work that way. My Hellcat made just over 1000hp on E85, and although I ran it that way for 3 1/2 years without any issues, Dodge didn't have to warranty my car since it was modified. Dodge was testing the limits of the 6.2L engine to build a factory built 1000+ HP car that was bulletproof enough to warranty. That's the difference. People like myself that built our Hellcat's to the same power level assumed a lot more risk that the stock engine internals were strong enough to hold up. The original Demon had stronger internals than my Hellcat and it was only 840hp, the new Demon 170 uses all new internal components other than the camshaft, once again built even stronger. That engine is bulletproof and overbuilt for 1000hp.

You can download the 2023 rulebook at nhra.com or call your local track. Bandimere gave me the 9.00 figure when they Tech'd my car last year.
