My Dad and I both bought brand new 2018 GMC Denali's last year. Mine was made in Flint (3500HD) and his was built in Mexico (1500). I was shocked at the difference in built quality, the truck made in Mexico was pretty much perfection, mine on the other hand, not so much.

As for your ignorant comment that the Mexican workers are low skilled, the same could be said about the American workers. In fact I could bet the quality and productivity in the Mexican plants are much higher as those workers are grateful they have a job working for GM assembling vehicles.

I have a order placed for a 2020 ZL1 that had a TPW of 9/30. This strike has left a bad feeling in my gut and I will probably not take delivery if and when it ever show's up....

that is interesting you could tell that much of a difference. You think GM quality control would make sure that the same product comes out of any plant.

Horror stories of beer cans and trash in the quarter panels abound.

Remember the Chrysler workers smoking dope and drinking on their breaks? Pay them more! Lol!

I assure you, not BS. I can get three pictures of my truck where I haven't done anything with it yet and probably won't as the dealer really doesn't want to fix the paint related items.

Loose trim was already fixed, I didn't take pictures of that BS.

Stitching in one of the seats was pulled out, fixed. But all the same BS!

Leaky GPS antenna was fixed, gasket was installed 180deg out. Unskilled worker BS.

My passenger door moulding isn't aligned with the body lines, drivers side is perfect. Don't believe me?

When the sunroof was installed, the union worker hit the roof panel and dented it from the inside out, enough that it cracked the paint. Cant happen, BS!

The 7 pin connector in the bed of the truck was also rammed into place causing the same type of damage on the roof, nice little dent from the inside out. At least the paint isn't cracked on this one. Yup, more BS

$94K dollar truck, I wonder why? Maybe because the careless union workers want more?

Trust me, I buy a lot of vehicles, the ones made in the US are typically worse than all others. But I will say my CTSV built in Lansing has been perfect.

Its a real problem when workers tell the company how it should be run.

No problems here with my 6th gen.

Of course anecdotes aren't evidence.

If you think Mexican workers build sub standard products you need to check yourself. They work their asses off every single day to build great products. My companies team members in a Mexico do awesome work. Yep, at $5 per hour but that’s what I was taught in Economics class almost 40 years ago.....the lowest cost producer at equal quality wins.

I also have a ZL1 on order with a TPW of 9/30. I was really excited when I ordered it on 9/14. When they went on strike the following day I tried to cancel on 9/16 but GM had already accepted the order. I too am considering walking away from it. I have concerns on what the build quality will be on cars made soon after they return to work. I am concerned about workmanship quality and the fact that parts have been stored in less than ideal conditions for weeks.

Well apparently Mary met face to face with the top brass from the UAW today in her office at the RenCen today. Armed security guards escorted them into and back out of her office. The meeting lasted about an hour. Hopefully this leads to a deal. But one of the topics she wanted to make clear to the union is that the strike is threatening to downgrade GM’s Moody’s and S&P credit ratings to junk.

So one evening he takes me on a tour of the plant. And I'll tell you all the equipment it takes to press a hood panel or door panel is pretty damned impressive. So I'm looking at these men standing at these machines placing two fasteners, reaching up and placing each hand on a switch and the press would then set the fasteners in place. So I say to my dad why are you so hip with this union horseshit. You have to use your skills to repair things around here and you could get a chimpanzee to do that guys job and the union got you the same benefits and money as him. My dad didn't answer that.
I think this all the time. My profession is designing equipment for manufacturing lines. I know people that operate machines that I've designed that make much more than I do designing them.
