Using paddle shifter as a boost scramble or nitrous activate button
I like as clean and stock appearing interior as possible but often have a lot going on that can't be seen. In this case I wanted an easy to reach boost scramble button. I am using it to switch an input on my stand beside ECM but it could also trigger an input on a separate boost controller or a nitrous controller.
My ECM has the option for 2 boost maps. The first one can be speed, tps or rpm based. The 2nd table is tps and rpm based. They are both closed loop or open loop. I run them closed loop and command a certain kpa. In order to activate the boost 2 table you ground one of the inputs to the ECM. After digging around in the steering wheel and column I found a purple/yellow wire right in the top of the column that is the paddle shifter output. It reads 6k to ground without pulling the paddle shifter and drops to 600ohms when you pull it. The ECM needs about 400ohms to switch so I added a 600ohm resister to ground off of that wire. Now when I pull it the resistance goes from 600 down to 300ohms and triggers the ECM. Of course this kills the paddle shifters but I have never used them anyways. So far it is working in the garage. I should get it out for a test drive soon and will report any issues. I may have to put a 6k ohm resistor on the wire that I cut to ground to simulate the paddle shifters. I also put a switch in the council so I can activate boost 2 that way. Here is a crappy video I shot on the dark last night. I will get something better up once I get it all cleaned up. https://youtu.be/YD561J03se0

Hmm. This would be great for me except I don't have the paddle shifters. Could I add this in an M6 car?

Thanks. I am really excited about the stealth boost scramble button but you never know what people around here will like.

Someone give this man a left control pad from a 2SS wheel so he can use the "heater" button. =)~
