I love this! I ordered the overlays and they didn't work at all and they look terrible. What did you use to be so detailed with the paint and what paint did you use?

Materials I Used:
  • Testors gloss black enamel that comes in a little glass bottle. This paint is available at most hobby shops for a couple of dollars. One bottle is plenty for both seats emblems. Shake thoroughly to mix.
  • Small pointed paint brush
  • Laquer Thinner (~$9/quart at Home Depot)
  • Cotton swabs (Q-Tips)
  • Masking tape, old towels, cardboard

First, most of the seats and emblems were heavily masked using tape, towels, and cardboard.

Once the seats are thoroughly masked, I used a small pointed brush to apply the paint. The paint will flow into place. Some paint will may overflow a little and get on the chrome. Don't sweat it, we'll clean that up later.

The emblems will need at least 2, maybe 3 coats to get full and smooth coverage. I gave each coat about 15-20 minutes to dry before applying another coat.

Leave the masking in place after the paint is dry, it is still needed.

In my case, some paint overflowed small amounts on to the chrome. I poured some lacquer thinner into a glass cup (do not use a thin plastic cup, the thinner will eat right through it) and lightly dipped a cotton swab into the thinner. Just get it moist, that's enough.

Use the moist swab to lightly rub at any paint that overflowed, the lacquer thinner will easily remove the enamel paint and will not harm the chrome. Don't try to make the swab last too long. Once it starts to get full of paint, use the other end or toss it and get a new one. Continue until all overflowed paint is removed.

I then removed all the masking and left the windows open overnight to make sure the paint was completely dry before driving the car again.

Remember, you will have open containers of paint and thinner inside the car and near upholstery, you very much do not want to spill either of them...

Mask the seats thoroughly and take your time.

With good preparation and patience the painted emblems should look terrific.

Nitto NTO5 Tire size

Great looking car, Im going with the same wheel setup and really love the NTO5 tires. I have ran them on my GEN 5 Camaro. Since the GEN 6 is a completely different tire size, setup and look, what size tire did you go with? Im considering 275/35/20 up front and undecided in the back. Either 315/35/20 or leaning towards the 305/30/20 in the rear. Your stance looks good with those tires! If you could let me know what tire size you went with, I sure would appreciate it!

DG, I replied to your PM.

Tire sizes on my car:

Tires: Nitto NT05
Front – 275/35/20
Rear – 305/30/20

Factory ride height, no lowering at all. The tires all around don't rub at all. 315's in the back might-maybe-possibly rub the wheel well, so I went with 305's.

Oh marvelous...

Hopefully it didn't get all the way thru, I reeeaaaaaalllllly do NOT want to have to do the TPMS relearn procedure again any time soon.

*** Update ***

Pulled the screw out, it was only .5" and was in the meat of the tire. Pressure has been holding OK for a while now.

This is the third time that sensor has gone awry in about 750 miles on these wheels & tires. Argh!!!

I'm going to go ahead and guess that the TPMS sensor is having a problem and am going to replace it.

Then I get to do the TPMS Relearn... oh, the joy...

Nah, a dealership would take one look at the MMR wheels and Nitto tires and tell me to pound sand.

Got the new sensor installed and remounted the wheel and tire. This time I couldn't get the relearn process to work at all with the tool I have.

Sigh... it figures...

Drove to the America's Tire* on Springdale in Huntington Beach, they have a $2000 TPMS tool that did the job. We'll see how long it stays synced up this time.

* I was treated very well by the staff at this tire shop, they're great, thanks Hector and Rene!

Ah yes, I forgot you had the after market wheels. Glad they treated you well and hope they got it fixed

2 days. It worked OK for 2 days and maybe 20 miles. While driving up Beach Blvd. today I get this on the DIC again:

ARRRRRGHHHHH!!!

Before I spend hours at the tire shop having the front wheels swapped, I'll start a thread in the Wheels & Tires subforum to see if anyone has any ideas.

Mystery solved (I hope).

I was 100% sure I had the correct part # sensors in the wheels.

I was 100% wrong.
