This update system is kinda finicky... two steps east, two steps west, wiggle your pinky counter-clockwise three times and then maybe it'll be willing to update. Phone update logic is typically much more tolerant, let's hope GM will keep tweaking it till it's transparent.

So, I tried it for several days, including on Thursday when the high temp reached 54F and it sat out in the sun most of the day. Also tried it with the charger attached. No joy.

I was all set to call the dealership on Monday and get them to do it. Then this morning I went to a friend's house and the temp was about 35F, and before I even shut the car off it suddenly asked me again if I wanted to install the update?! So I did, and it updated with no problems, and now my stereo shuts off again when I open the door to get out. Go figure. The only thing I did differently was to set the parking brake, but I can't imagine that has anything to do with it?

I have no idea what its "ideal conditions" are, and I'm not sure it does either. But I do know next time when I get the alert to install the update I will do it on the first offer rather than telling it to remind me later!

I just tried it on my Canadian '19. Nothing.

So is this update actually just for 20+ or is it because I am in Canada?

I was wondering if they pushed out an update. I now have information on "total engine use hours" and "total idle hours". I also have a new fuel mileage comparison options available on my dash that wasn't there before.

Pretty sure I had those since day one in mine (the hours), purchased 6/2020.

That's just a gauge cluster menu item you can turn on and off via the settings page of the gauge cluster. Yes, I have also always had it.
