It is a quality piece. Not as long as stock...but the magnet is the draw. Highly recommended!

I haven't changed the oil in my LT1 yet but I had a 2013 Silverado 5.3 and the 6qts of oil that the manual called for was not enough to bring up to FULL on dipstick. I though it was wrong and maybe had the wrong dipstick somehow because I never had that issue before. I ended up just putting 6qts in and whatever was on the dipstick is what I used for FULL. That was 1/2 to 3/4 on the dipstick.

I think I screwed up. I put 10.5 qts in. I could have sworn I read somewhere the capacity was more like 10.6. So I used bottle 11 to fill the oil filter up. It took about half of the quart. I then put it on, hand tight. I then filled 9.5 qts. Checked the level, but it was at the bottom of the x's. So I added the remaining .5 of the 10th quart. It went to max x's. Took a drive and heard a humming and went home to check the level. A puff a smoke came out of the dipstick and it was HOT. it was at max x, but didn't appear to be over. How bad is it to have .5 more in there?

I drain the oil until there is only a dribble, plug it up, and 10 quarts put me right at full. From the owners manual, they want you to check it as ice cold as possible with a minimum wait time of 15 min. So if your reading is at full after sitting over night, thats fine. When the oil heats it will expand and the reading will be higher.

.5 quart over isn't gonna do anything, but are you really .5 over? Depends how long you let it drain. I've read that the LT1 is actually already "over filled" compared to other GenV truck v8s are only 8 quarts. It sounds like you checked the oil before you first started the engine. The one thing I will say on this dipstick it is somewhat difficult to tell if you're over filled because of the dipstick design.

A good way I've found to check the oil level without getting confused on the dip stick is to put it down to the O'ring, but don't press it all the way down. That way the oil will read artificially lower and it's easier to see where it's at. Then you can do some visual math in your head to see how close you are to the top or if you are over.

But yeah, I would check after you let it sit for a few hours driftking, I think the manual calls for 2 or 3 hours. I don't think .5 will be a big deal. When I run my car at the track I always keep it very near the top or a little over and I've never had any issues.

These engines with their oil paths are all the same and take 10 quarts of oil, not 9.5 and not 10.5. There is no way one LT1 takes 10 qts and another one with the same block, pipes, coolers and pan would take a different amount.

Drain the oil completely until it stops dripping, then fill 10 quarts into the engine, and you're done.

I don't even read the dipstick immediately after oil changes (assuming there are no oil leaks anywhere, that I always check with the engine running), because I prep 10 quarts next to the car and put everything else away, lest I make a mistake by forgetting where I was in the process and accidentally add more. Also, checking can be misleading if the car isn't level while doing the oil change.

Don't know what to tell you, but the last 2 times I changed the oil myself, let it drain until no longer dripping, and it took 10.8 Qts to get the oil to the top of the hash marks (I track mine). Car was level at the time. 10.0 Qts had it at 1/3 up from bottom of hash marks.

I'm late to this thread, but my 1LE is about the same. I've changed the oil three times now and each time its taken more than 10 quarts. And I've used my Race Ramps each time. Perhaps the angle of the drain plug on ramps helps drain more oil from the vehicle than if it was flat.

According to the LT1 crate engine guide, it says to pump in 1-2 quarts to prime it but lists the capacity as 7 quarts which is in line with the the 2019 C7 base LT1. If the sump and everything is identical, the extra oil with 10 quarts is either somewhere in the cooling system or just an additional buffer. Another hint is the dipsticks are a different part number.
EDIT: looks like the heads, oil pan, and intake are different due to packaging.

I find 10L puts my dipstick at full maybe a hair over which is 10.57 quarts

Edit: I always pre-fill my filter before installing

To clarify, I always pre-fill the filter before installing. So when I say it's requiring 10.8 quarts to get to the top of the dipstick, that's including whatever oil was needed to pre-fill the filter.

Ya I just drained, filled filter and added a total of 10 qts and after running and waiting for hours I am a half quart low. I will check it again this morning after sitting.
SIDE NOTE: I hate these dipsticks! The lead indicator that is pressed on had loose pieces on the top of it. I cleaned it the best I can but darn that is not good. Little pieces of lead is not a good thing to have floating around in the oil.
