ZLE 18" 200tw tire options
I recently purchased a set of 18x11, 18x12 wheels for my ZLE. So I need to decide on a set of tires. I'm hoping to get some opinions on my various options.
I would like a fast set of 200tw tires (primarily good for autox but I'm not concerned about being super competitive). My other uses for the tires would be: passable backup to SC3R for damp track days, and can get me around town/to the track (with decent behavior in the rain at reduced speed). I'm considering these options: 1) 315/335 BFG Rival S 1.5 2) 315 square Falken 660 3) 315 square Yokohama A052 4) 315/345 Conti ECF (assuming 18" 345 fits in the rear?) 5) Wait for the new RE-71RS wider sizes? Anyone heard when 305+ sizes might be available? One concern with a square set up is that during a damp track day, I'd want to keep PTM working reasonably well. I've read about some issues with PTM and square set ups, but I can't tell how significant of a problem it would be. I'd appreciate any feedback on these options, or if I'm not considering other good set ups. Thanks! |

On the ZL1 1LE, so far I've run-
295/315 A052 on 18x11" / 18x12" 315/335 Rival-S 1.0 & 1.5 on 18x11" / 18x12" 315 square A052 on 18x12" 315 square RT660 on stock 19x11" / 19x12" Out of all of these tires, the only ones I would use in the damp (not full wet) is the A052. They can all be competitive, depending on conditions. The A052 is head and shoulders above the others in the cold/wet, it's not even close. When its warm/dry, the gap isn't nearly as large, and any of them can be reasonably competitive in the right hands. Given supply issues, I'd say go with what you can get that meets your timelines. I know a 335/30-18 is on the overseas size list for the RE71RS, but I'm skeptical that it's coming this way anytime soon. |

Did you notice any problems with square set ups regarding how well PTM works?
Since you put a 315 Rival on the 11" front, I'm assuming you could also put a 315 A052 on the 11" front as well, right? Based on your post it looks like you had it on a 12" wheel. Thanks, I appreciate the feedback. |

There aren't any PTM issues with a square setup, but it will have more oversteer bias than a staggered.

I run the RT660s at 25 PSI cold. The hook much better than the GY SC 3 tires (220 TW). The RT660s come up to temperature quickly.

The A052 benefits from all the wheel you can give it. People have run the 315 on 11", it might be a bit more vague, but it's probably a wash in terms of lap time. The RT660 has much stiffer sidewalls, and the 315 likely doesn't suffer on 11". |

315 square Yokohama A052 - Isn't this tire out of stock? Where are you finding them?
You may also want to consider Nankang CR-S which maybe a bit cheaper than the others and avaliable in 315/30/18 |

Appreciate the replies. Yeah I just looked at possible sizes on tirerack, good point about whether they're in stock. I'll look into the Nankang CR-S.

I've also got a set of 315/30-18 Nankang CR-1 (now renamed to CR-S) on 18x12. Unless it's cold/wet, they are comparable to the A052. Maybe they aren't quite as fast for a single flyer, but the steering response feels better.

I don't think PTM is hard coded with tire size etc. Its more likely that it makes decisions based on live factors like yaw angle, steering wheel angle, throttle position, tire slip angle etc. OFC tire sizes affect those, in turn affecting PTM but not confusing it in anyway.

Tires are mostly out of stock, there are 26 305/30/19 RT660s at Falken USA as of yesterday and some shops have 305/30/19 Nankang CR-S in stock. Otherwise nothing, all 18s in 305+ seem to be sold out and I've been told it could be 4 months for new stock.
I ordered a set of 305/30/19 RT660s, running 19x11 square, should be fine, doubt there's a big difference vs 315s.
