"Performance View" in HUD
Gang,
2016 2SS convertible with ~11K miles. Recently-acquired car. Hadn't yet used NAV for actual directions but the first time I did, I noticed that it was projecting upcoming turns onto the HUD. Didn't really want that, so went poking around the owners' manual. On Pg. 124 there is a passage describing "Performance View" on the HUD, and specifically that this choice is the only one that will NOT overlay NAV directions onto it. This is the only HUD option I use, but it still does it. Now, I say that's the "option I use", but something missing from that view, on my car, are the "shift timing lights" that run across the top of the view. I get everything else, but not those. So might I have some bugginess here, and it's still overlaying the turn-by-turn onto the display? Any other A8 owners notice either the missing "shift timing lights", or been unable to fully disable turn-by-turn in the HUD?

Shift lights are only allowed on the 1LE and the ZL1, not our SS trims (gm can go pound sand for such nickel-and-diming, I'm almost sure it's a single boolean flag in the software, just to screw us over).
Nav guidance does not display in the performance view HUD mode on my 2018, it is constrained to nav mode, so that might indeed be a bug. That said, I think (not 100% sure, I'll need to check) the HUD may automatically switch to nav mode when you start a new trip, so try switching back to the performance view and see if nav instructions no longer overlay it.

Hello Arpad,
Thanks for weighing in! Interesting about the accessibility of Performance View on the 1LE/ZL1 but not on the SS, because the owner's manual -- for 2016 anyway -- mentions no such distinction. I am pretty sure that I cycled through the HUD options a few times after I noticed that this was happening, but next drive out I will play with it again to be sure.

Let me know how performance view behaves on a 2016, I'm curious, because the software is indeed slightly different (even the main font was adjusted between 2016 and 2017-2018).
