MAT- What is considered too high?

Ok so I recently installed a bunch of bolt ons. 2 inch headers , Flex fuel, JMS Fuel Max, wide band, 12% lower pulley, Banks IDash, rotofab.
I live in the South where is currently hits 100 plus every day. My MAT reaches 168 degrees fairly regularly.

What do you guys consider normal and what is the point where you get concerned?

Best way to deal with heat is to run E85 (or at least a blend). Do you have access to E85 anywhere around you? If so have a flex fuel sensor installed (short dough) and the tune adjusted. Easily the best way to beat the heat.

On the highway...
Ambient 90F = IAT.3 of 115-120F

Low Speed (light to light)...
Ambient 90F = IAT.3 of 130-140F

Red Light (extended idle)...
Ambient 90F = IAT.3 of 145-155F

Personally, I think my car does great, so i really don't worry about it, although I check the gauge constantly (more for learning). I assume the car is pulling timing over 150F, but when doing hard pulls its always between 110-130F so I think i am OK.. I would be concerned with anything over 150F for pulls... Just not an issue here.

I agree with Josh about running some E. Also consider a larger HX and fender tank. I also changed my fan settings, so that helps alot when at idle.

168 is pretty toasty for pump gas, but no biggie for E85. E85 likes heat pump gas doesn't. I agree with Josh that you should consider a flex sensor and running a blend of ethanol. You also would be better off porting the supercharger vs smaller pullies. Especially if limited to pump gas.

For example, on pump gas you need to pull timing around 132 degree air temps or you will get knock and be limited to 17-20 degrees timing max depending on fuel quality.

On E50+ you can run 26 degrees timing even at 170 degree air temps and the engine is happy.

A lot of people to this day still don't understand Ethanol fuels. It's like liquid intercooling...no amount of air to air intercooling or heat exchangers remove heat from the cylinder as effectively as E85 does.
