Upper Cylinder Clean for LT Engines
So I was reading an article this morning about the LT engine.
One thing that was mentioned was that a upper clydinder clean should be performed every 10k miles. The article interfered that there was some additive or chemical clean which takes care of carbon build up on the valves. My son has a ZLE and we installed an upper pulley at 8.5k and looked into the intake side of the head and it looked pretty nasty for such a new stock car. My ZL1 now has about the same mileage. So can can someone shed some light on what is available to do a clean? |

I work for BG Products and we have induction service kits for direct injection, but not on the ZL1 with positive displacement blower. Nothing will work correctly on a PD car due to the intercooler bricks knocking chemical out of suspension and blower heat making it evaporate prior to getting to the valves.

The article also mentions that the LT5 engines do not have the problem due to the fact that the secondary injectors spray directly in to the valves or on the valves? Can this be added to the LT4?

Yes a catch can is an option, but I have read so many conflicting posts that I am taking the info with a grain of salt. I do know that a stock ZL1 at 10k miles has a considerable carbon build up and GM must have a recommendation or procedure to help.

BG has always been top notch. That being said, DI is a difficult cat to skin when it comes to PD cars like the LT4 or any boosted engine because of what has been mentioned above.

Does running E85 clean your engine after it's been running on gasoline for 10K?
I know engines running 100% E85 are very clean when they are opened up for head work. |

To answer your question, I couldn't tell you for sure, but I do run full pump E all the time now, so I know it can't hurt.
