Question What Constitutes Premium Fuel?

I've got a Shock 2019 Turbo 4 banger(my daily driver) and a Krypton Green 2017 2SS.

The owner's manuals say premium fuel only.

Some stations designate 91 as premium and while others designate 93 as premium.

To get 93 where I live, it's about 6 miles out of my way in one direction and 8 miles the other direction. No problem for my 2017 2SS since I store it just down the street from one of those.

However, I've got a station right down the street and on my way to work that has 91, if nothing else but for convenience I'd like to fill up there with my daily driver.

Do I risk damaging my turbo 4 banger if I use 91?

Sorry if this is a repeat question.

91 or higher is considered premium fuel. See what the owner's manual says, but I'm sure 91 is completely fine for your eide

I appreciate the quick answer my friend.

I'll definitely re-read the recommended fuel section in the parking lot after work to make sure.

Looks like I've got the answer. I don't know why I don't remember reading that I can use under 93 before. Maybe I'm getting that "old timer's syndrome".

There you go man. If it were me I'd just run 91 since it's more available to you, but if I were to do a track event or something I'd use 93. For regular street driving you won't need more octane than what 91 provides. Know what I mean?

The higher the octane the better for these cars.

lol not true anything over 93 is just a waste unless you are tuned for it in cali we only have 91 and that is what my car is tuned for 93 or 95 may help but not going to help me make 100hp more

i might take a bit of this debate. this platform has an integrated wideband. configured into the ecu. the ecu is a smart ecu and monitors KR and O2 burn. How come you come to the conclusion its not learning? I mean I want to understand the premise more, there might be something I am missing.

Come on guys... This isn't even a conversation to have when it concerns the LTG , and its infamous per-ignition detonation tendencies on the stock tune file, ... Especially, with the A8 trans and early shift points.

Run the highest octane rating you can depending on your tune, as long as you dont run out of fuel.. You have Vastly Different high and low octane tables, not to mention the multiple FI modifier tables in play VS a NA V8 car..

hah i just noticed the 3 engines in the thread. i see the how the question made sense now. from the lt1 to the ltg there are vastly different strategies. I would say, and not having owned a 6 or 8, the ltg is its own animal. for me, i admit its all I really know, so tunnel vision sets in for me sometimes. From my POV i've been looking closely at this for a year, and I get the sense that the LGT really is dependent on octane. I have tested a couple of things for preign, with over the counter additives, and now boost cooler and the engine seems really responds well to that. Its working out great so far.

I am going to do some tq shaping to "Lower" the output, its hard to lay off the power, give the chassis a break if you can believe that. Tires are just going to get softer and add a lot of strain.

Local to me I can get either 91 pure gas or 93 ethanol blend. I get better mileage out of the 91 and don’t notice any performance difference. If so very minimal. Doesn’t justify the price difference. Although with this pandemic gas here has been .68l for regular as apposed to 1.00-1.20l. Been nice

Thumbs up

I guess I don't have to worry about 93 or 91 octane.

We're buying a house that is down the street from the station that has 93 octane, so it will be on the way home from work and has a 3 car garage so I won't have to store my SS anymore too.

Winning!
