Any new memos or approvals from GM / Chevy about the new 0W-40 oil in 2014-2018 LT1's?

"There is no memo/bulletin/instructions from chevy saying pre-2019 models require the new oil and thus we arr not recomending that you switch and as such any warranty claims will not be covered"

I called 2 other local chevy dealers and got a similar answer. They have no issues selling me the oil but are waiting on GM to give them something in writing saying it is "required" before they change over.

I have not seen anything official from chevy on this and only see the literature about 2019s and how it can be used on earlier models but no dealer specific official letter.

What is everyones thoughts on this?

**(This is not a discussion about the oil it self. vs 5w-30 but the dealer response / gm response. )**
I got the same from my dealer, they said I can use that if i want but they haven't seen anything saying its official. It was a few more bucks than the 5w30

So what's the best price anyone has found for this stuff? I found this but am not familiar with the vendor. For the six-pack.

I just ordered from them through eBay same price, that's a really good price for any M1 by the quart product.

Just for giggles I checked the Mobil 1 site again and once again it still says the ESP oil is formulated for Diesel engines with Diesel Particulate Filter. Note that a diesel uses a Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) which is different then car Catalytic Converters.

The 2018 Manual says the ESP Ow-40 is for track events not daily driving and it is written in the High Performance Owners Manual Supplement.

https://mobiloil.com/en/motor-oils/m...il-1-esp#0W-40

Now that Audi is out the only engines that probably use this stuff is BMW and Benz and that doesn't seem like a market that will drive down the price of this stuff. So--- Dexos 1 Gen 2 5W-30 is what is going in my car.

In that link you posted:

"Mobil 1 ESP oils help prolong the life and maintain the efficiency of emission systems in both diesel- and gasoline-powered automobiles. They are formulated to be fully compatible with passenger car diesels that have the latest diesel particulate filters (DPFs) and gasoline catalytic converters (CATs)."

If that's not saying you can use it with a gasoline motor, I don't know what is.

Going in for a dealer oil change with my 2017 SS 1LE, and I want them to use 0W-40 Mobil 1 ESP, is there any literature or documentation I can show them so they don't end up using 5W-30?

I tried to find a 2019 Owners manual online but cannot, any help would be appreciated.

if you ask, they should know what it is. It's a few bucks more per quart. I changed my oil cap with the one that says 0-40 and that seems to get their attention.

I've been looking forward to installing my new oil cap once I switch over to 0W-40 next weekend.

You can download the 2019 owners manual on the my Chevrolet page below. I added a picture from the 2019 owners manual as well showing 0W40 for the 6.2L.

Guys here is Mobil 1 official release information on the 0-40 ESP oil for the Camaro and Corvette

https://mobiloil.com/~/media/amer/us...ne%20pager.pdf

Is Mobil 1 ESP Formula 0W-40 being used in any other GM engines?
Only the highest performance GM engines are being upgraded to Mobil 1 ESP Formula 0W-40. This includes the most powerful Corvette, Camaro and CTS-V models that feature the LT1 or LT4 engines, and any future engines that require a dexos®-approved 0W-40 motor oil.
