Add to that the fact that the 3.5EB has a dry weight of 449lbs and a Coyote's dry weight is 444lbs. Meaning that once turbos, piping, intercooler, etc are all added to the V8 the weight only goes up. Doing things like utilizing a lighter engine, that can provide acceptable power for this application, moving the battery to the rear, and other weight saving options can only be a good thing. The only people Ford would have to worry about alienating are those "but, but, muh vee-aight motuur" crowd. But in the end I do agree it'll be something along the lines of a CPC 5.2-5.4L TT-V8. They can even use it as an optional upgrade power plant in Raptor a year or so after it launches. And I have no problem with that.

This illustration is very miss leading. Almost every time the 500 was taken to the track the test crew reported that performance would drastically drop off after the 1st or 2nd lap then the ZL1 would come around. So I guess if you were going to go to the track and pay the extremely high entrance fees, and additional costs and you only wanted to run 1-2 laps at speed the 500 would have been your car.

IIRC The GT500 had brake fade. I believe some people posted it was easily fixed by swapping brake fluid to a higher performance one, ( I even think the owners manual says to do that) |

it was the brake fluid that was the culprit. Super easy fix.

The solid rear axle didn't help a lot.

And you needed to get the track package and performance package on top of that. A base gt500 will not do well on the track. Plus those 13.8" single piston rear brakes don't help much.

I picked them from the same site. I didn't shop for times.

I'm betting we see better than published times for the 17 ZL1.
I now goes 0-60 in 1st gear for the M6. |

The gen5 ZL1 was a more refined car and reading the conclusions of those test will tell you just that.

With a live-rear it was a point and shoot, brake hard, turn...repeat. It was the power that kept it competitive, hence no more LRA.

I bet in the hands of regular folks the ability to push the car took much less white knuckles and sweat in the ZL1. At the end of the day we still don't know for sure about the next ZL1, though we have enough info to start assuming it will be a great car and steps better than last ZL1. As far as the next GT500, lol, we don't know jack, so the comparison is premature.
