LT1 Tires

Do the thinner rear tires on the LT1 effect its performance?

Alright more specifically. How much do they effect straight line performance and cornering? Naturally I assume its easier to lose traction with thinner tires in the rear? Will this difference in tire width be noticeable on a daily drive of the vehicle or will something like this be only noticeable on the track?

455 hp/tq on a 245.... An all-season 245....

If you drive it civil you'd probably be fine.
If you hammer it, you'll probably light them up unless the TC catches it.

It should be easy to figure this out...

Hell even on my 2018 V6 these tires are barely enough. I can only imagine them on the V8 lol.

As 95 Imp said, on the street it depends how you drive. If you drive gently you won't notice a difference but if you hammer on the throttle or try to throw it into corners hard it's not going to do as well as an SS or one of the 4/6 cyl 1LE variants.

Side note, if you're planning to track the car, I highly suggest one of the 1LE optioned cars or an SS. The LT1 is missing stuff the SS has for track use and your warranty won't be honored if something happens to an LT1 on a track where the 4/6 1LEs plus the SS trim and above all do.

It's not unusual for me to chirp my tires shifting to second gear (if I want to). If they're not properly warmed up I can really light them up in first gear. These are SC3 305s. I would think if you turned off TC you could burn all season 245s down to nothing with one long burnout.

I'm sure 245s kill your 0-60 and 1/4 mile times and seriously impair cornering. Basically they turn your really nice Camaro into a eunuch.

If you measure cornering ability, 60 foot times, braking distances, lap or quarter mile times, yes, of course, the tires will most definitely make a difference. If you're just enjoying the car on the street, you'll never notice a difference and they'll be just fine. Even if you're gettin on it hard, they'll be fine. They'll obviously lose traction earlier than a wider performance tire would, but it's not like driving the car will be dangerous or not fun. Don't overthink it...


...unless of course you have specific track goals in mind, as has been mentioned.

*Gulp* yeah...

On my C7 the traction was just barely enough with Michelin PS4S and 285 rear. The SS 1LE can definitely chirp a bit if I gun it hard.

Throttle control gets very important on these cars, even more so with these tires.

Just spend a few bucks on a pair of stock SS rims and tires and be done with it. They can be found pretty cheap as tons of folks swap them out for aftermarket wheels. Heck, just get a set of rear rims and tires would be fine as the fronts are the same size (Non 1LE).

If you are not tracking the car, the car will be perfectly fine. Even with the best tires, you drive the car like an idiot, it is going to get ugly.

You will be fine, just be cool. That is definitely not enough tire for 455/455. My 285s are barely enough on 3 season tires.

Put a set of 245/35R20 RE-71Rs on it and it will really well planted

To me part of the appeal of the car is massive back tires. They fill the wheel wells just right. I suggest, as Indy did, getting either a set of OEM 1LE rims and putting good rubber on them or getting a knockoff set of 1LE rims and putting good rubber on them. You won't regret it, though your wallet may.

'20 LT1 owner here, manual, the all season 245s are not that bad. Yes they go up in smoke wot in 1st, other than that, they are just fine for the street. My solution will be 2 used 20x8.5 factory LT1 rim's with some sticky Mickey thompson 245 rubber in the rear for the track or to catch some AWD cars by surprise from a dig after the blower goes on and when I wear out these all season Goodyear's, I'll get some summer only tires on each corner. It's always summer where I live, never see all seasons here Haha, maybe 2 season's at most, hot season and hotter season...
