Mod Path Options
Welp, been a little slow at work so I figured I'd put my thoughts on paper to see what you guys think. I'm patiently waiting for my oil pump to crap the bed (11/17 build date) till I void my powertain warranty, so these mods will have to wait until then, but if I can start collecting parts during various sales it won't feel like a big dollar hit all at once. I'll drag race maybe 2-3 times a year, and possibly do an auto-x event at CamaroFest. Sprinkle in a half mile event MAYBE, and that's about it. The occasional mid-week night time gather with the boys, but that doesn't matter because the slowest one has about 850 whp and I'm not trying to box in that ring. We generally use the car as a grand tourer more than anything on nice days. The goal is a budget friendly 700 whp, stock driveability, and no cam swap/fuel system/E85/meth.
Of the two options above, what's the consensus?

For 700whp?
Porter blower 103 TB Big gulp 2” headers Tune Without any pulley, you might get close and this would be dead reliable with no extra strain. If you added E85 sensor and tune, should easily hit 700. Or add pulley, but that will add some heat... |

Wonder what a ZL1 with headers and cam, and dry filter will put out horsepower wise ? 6 speed only ? 100 hp ?

My guess would be 70hp-ish range of additional horsepower

I'm in the same boat, looking at similar mods once the warranty is up. I've been directed more towards the 2300 setup, room to grow if I get the itch and seems like the magnuson will run cooler as well. Especially if you pulley the stock blower

You probably will want the balancer/lower pulley wtih maggy
I wouldn't bother with JMS FuelMax unless you are doing cam. You are going to run out of high side before you run out of low side fuel

Change the pullies on the stock SC in anyway and you will have to consider upgrading the cooling.

What would the balancer and lower pulley do for me with the 2300? From what I understand it *should* make the power at stock boost levels. Another guy here, I think XXX ZL1 did a 2300 and ran out of fuel up top and the JMS helped out. Ted seems to be putting them on everything. We used to use the Kenne Bell Boost-A-Pumps frequently like this in my Turbo Regal days.

What’s the rwhp potential with a 2300 and bolt ons? I’ve read that 750-800ish is comfortable (with bolt ons) and 1000rwhp ceiling with fuel system, with the 2650. How does the 2300 compare and what does it’s ceiling look like?
This caught my attention because the 2300 is CARB compliant and I live in an emissions hell state. |

Same here waiting hopefully mine doesn't crap out. I have pretty much everything you got Jon but I have headers. But no ported TB. I have a lower pulley and balancer on deck ready to go. My 3 yr 36000 is up in October. If Katech comes out with an upgrade oil pump i am going to do that. After the pulley I figured meth then that would make me happy almost if not 700whp

I have the Magnuson 2300. It is a great upgrade and can be had for a lot less than $4999.

I have a JMS FuelMax and after we got into the +180 whp (w/cam) range we ran out of low side: the high side was showing instability along with low side not reaching commanded levels at that point. You can do it but high side will be the driver in your setup more than low side. At best it will offer some better stability on high side. Here is my thread on the install I did: https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=569721. Now I think it is around +220 whp, I can't remember.

Save your cash for the 2650. If you are going to do any auto x, or road racing this would be the way to go. If more leisure and 1/4 mile, nothing wrong with ported SC, 103TB, big Gulp, and lower pulley.
