My 14' ZL1 supercharger is getting louder :(
Has anyone heard anything regarding a recall for 2014s with spring couplers?

I think I remember something about the early 14s having the same problems as the 12 and 13 SCs. Try going back through the treads from early 2014. Sorry I can't be of more help, but I think I there was some talk of it back then. Your dealer should be able to pull up some info on it also.

Also note that the solid isolator couplers have been the subject of complaints (the CTS-V guys complain of a buzzing noise), and GM is now supposedly offering a new replacement part number for the blower that has a greased version of the spring-loaded isolator.

That's great to hear Bryant, thank you for the info. My 2012 has not had a problem. Not sure if breaking it in by the book helped or maybe because it only has 2,000 mi on it. Really hate the thought of it coming apart but glad to hear they have a better fix if it has to.

The 14's have a solid coupler.

There have been spring couplers that have made it through to the later model production.

5K miles on mine, no probs here. I guess I am lucky, however I still got more years on that extended warranty coverage before I need to worry, if ever.

My '12 has about 20,500 miles on it and has the original coupler. I cannot hear it rattling at idle, although it definitely has some free play if I pull the supercharger belt and wiggle the supercharger pulley by hand. While I'm sure that I could make up a story and get my dealer to replace the blower, why risk getting a replacement that is worse?
IMO, enjoy the car until a problem actually occurs, and then address the issue. If a problem occurs under warranty, the dealer will take care of you. If the warranty is expired or invalidated by mods, then installing an aftermarket coupler is relatively inexpensive. I don't think it's worth much hand-wringing.

That's not totally true. There has been cars doing as soon as they were bought. Mine didn't start until almost 20,000 miles. I'm not sure why some do and some don't. Oh and I get on it every time I drive it. It's too much fun not to. Lol.

Ya, I was always reading on here about supercharger noise, Never heard a peep out of mine until I hit 12k, then all of a sudden marbles!!!
Mine was done last week, I must say, while no difference in power, I do feel a big difference in throttle response for sure. -Bobby

I have been around a lot of these and some don't get much louder and some do. Mine stay just barely noticeable at idle. |
