NEW BRAKE PADS??????

I recently bought and had installed Ceramic Brake pads from Advance Auto. They are platinum Carquest silver metallic pads. They guy putting them on tried to convince me not to take off my original Brembo pads but they are the original pads and they were starting to squeak and leave alot of brake dust on my rims. He was concerned that the new ceramic pads would eventually do the same. So I was wondering if anyone has had these pads before. They were 50 for the front and rear. I dont plan on doing any racing on the track I just want to keep the dust off my rims. Was this a good idea or should I have kept my original pads on there?

Ceramic pads should have less dust and last longer than normal pads. You should be ok.

I still have the original rotors on also. And when I drive the car it feels good no squeak and great stopping power. I just suprised he didn't want me to take off the original pads.

How many miles on the car?

Unless you or the previous owner was tracking the car it seems kind of early to need to replace brakes. Are your rotors in good shape?

Yes rotors are in great shape the pads were starting to squeak alot and I have alot of brake dust on the rims so I switched to Ceramic to cut down on the dust and squeaks.

He said that because the OEM pads are better, just do yourself a favor and don't put the car on a track with those new pads and you'll be fine.

For a street car ceramics are fine, just don't expect to do a lot of high speed hard braking with them, they will fade very quickly.

Yeah im not planning on tracking my car. If I do it wont be for a long time. Right now im just enjoying the ride. and when or if i do track it i will get a whole new braking system that is able to handle the stress.

So far the ones I bought are working great. No dust no squeak and smooth braking. Not bad for 110 bucks.

I also experience the excessive brake dust and squealing at every stop. May try your suggestion.

FYI, I bought some Stop tech Street performance pads, I think they're around 80 bucks per end. They're almost completely quiet, except once they get a bit warm after a few autocross runs I hear a small peep out of them.

They seem to make less dust than the brembos did also.

I'm going to try them at VIR in April and see how they do. I will just be running North course which isn't too hard on brakes, I suspect they wouldn't hold up on Full course.
