What is the average life of OEM Battery?
My 2010 2LT RS still has the original battery. The car is under a cover at the moment with about 6 inches of snow atop the cover, It's been below freezing over the last few weeks.
Should I expect to replace the battery once the weather changes? Thanks Tom |

5 years is about the average life of a battery. It may or may not need replacement when the weather breaks.

Since you are not hooked up to a battery tender, your 5 year old battery will be suspect in the Spring.
Under the best of circumstances, 7 years is about the limit. But in your case, it's probably time for a new battery. |

I'm still running my oem battery, it's a 2010, more importantly, I've got 99,898 miles and am in an out of my car maybe 20-30 times a day, that's a lot of starting which is the biggest drain on the battery, when it's time to be replaced, most likely going with another oem one.

My brother has a camaro (as well as my mom and dad lol) and he's had his for about 5 years and the battery is still pretty good, so yea it does last a pretty long time.

When I lived in Florida my OEM's lasted about 3 years max, the heat really played a toll on them. Seems though up north the weather is kinder to them.

I'll find out in a week or two once the snow on the cover melts. Haven't even had the doors open since December.
The car turns 5 this April and it's been very cold these last couple of weeks (in the teens a lot). Keeping my fingers crossed. Tom |

If I wanted to change my battery, what is the best one to purchase? Aftermarket or OEM?

OEM is good, I personally like Interstate Batteries.

My car will be 6 years old come May, still on the original battery. Sitting is probably the worst for them. Starting and keeping them charged will keep them in better shape. If you leave it sitting for long periods then a trickle charger is the best bet to keep it strong.

The Camaro battery is in the trunk, so it doesn't get stressed by engine heat. The only OEM battery I had that failed before 7 years was in a cramped minivan engine compartment. It died after less than five years.

Don't it figure. A week ago I posted how my oem battery was still going strong, well now a bit over 100,000 miles and after pulling in for gas it wouldn't start. Had to jump it, took it back to the shop and checked the charging system and all is good. It's been starting fine since then so it could be a fluke but I'm putting my money on it being a sign. lol.
