Is this something that is doable or should I look for some other way of charging the second battery.
I see no point in this question. Just get a room and stop napping in rest areas.

And an opinion posted. What's your reasoning?

Just get one of these and leave your car electrical system alone. It will be much easier and safer.

Yeah but you guys also run heavy duty alternators as well, and if i'm not mistaken, your trucks run almost constantly. I second getting a portable charger/jumper. I have two of them, one for each car.

Honda sells a 1k generator. Take the case apart, dump the fuel tank and tie into the cars tank, and you should be able to tuck it away somewhere under the car in a cavity somewhere.

it's only 17.7"L x 9.4"W x 15"H

or heck... just leave it intact, and break it out when you have to charge the laptop.

While we're talking about it, Pilot InstaBoost is $130 on Amazon, $80 at Lowe's. Four out of five stars.

You will be fine running dual batts, I do it in my daily car. Batt isolator is a good idea, but not mandatory if you are able to keep an eye on the volt guage you are going to install , right?

Isolators also keep the lower batt from draining the charged batt while the car is off. There will always be a small voltage difference. The best way to avoid problems is to buy two new batteries so you will know 100% what condition they are in.
