when i start my car i got 40 psi on the oil gauge , but driving it goes down to 30 and after a drive the oil pressure stays at 30 or a little under... is this normal?? i got the melling oil pump in there

No it isn't bud, I have the 10296 Hp spring in it and I'm never below 40 at idle on a hot day it's about ~44, as I accelerate my psi also increases and at WOT is around ~70ish.

Did you torque the pump down correctly? How did you install the pump? Is it a 10296 or 10295? What spring is on it? And OIL pressure should increase with acceleration.

yes, i torque d the bolts......when i first do a cold start up the pump goes to 40 ..no prob, after the the motor warms up the needle drops to right above 30..WOT PUMP GOES TO ABOUT 40...driving though town pump stays right below or above 30 psi....
do you think it could be the oil pressure sensor or the moble 5w30 im using??

When installing the oil pump pick up. You could have pinch or not seated the red o ring. This seems to be very common with le motors. Especially since gm only used the pick up with one bolt.

****ing oil pump just went out.....only giving me 20 psi... I started hearing valve tap and looked down at the oil pressure and 20 psi.. I parked it and called a tow truck to take her home..never buying a melling again..thinking about just buying a new stocker oil pump.
