Not necessarily will it shudder. By 2018 they were figuring out it was the TC.

The new fluid came out in Jan 2019, I highly doubt a 2018 would have it from the factory.

I'd visit a dealer and ask for the flush based on TSB 18-NA-355. The sooner the better, because you may damage the torque converter by driving too much with the old fluid. Not saying it'll necessarily happen, but why take the risk?

No. Here is the TSB

https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/20...63890-9999.pdf

Note the Date Breakpoint columns. SOP means Start of Production. The "To" date means cars built after that *should* have the new fluid. Since you have an '18, you definitely have the old fluid. All '18s would have been built in '17 and '18, with the '19s starting production in late '18.

Go to the dealer and just tell them it's been doing it. They don't need to verify it anymore, just your complaint that it does should be enough for them to do the flush. Print and take the TSB with you, as prior to this one they DID have to verify it. Some dealers still think they need to. See (and point out to them if they tell you otherwise) the "Correction" box on the bottom of page 1. Go to another dealer if yours balks, and tell them you'll be using another dealer hence forth for ALL your needs!

My car was built June 2018. So, what everyone is saying is that my car likely does not have the new fluid and will probably develop the dreaded shudder at some point? What can I do to prevent this? I don’t drive the car more than about 2k miles per year. My fear is that the shudder will reveal itself AFTER the warranty is up. I DO have some pretty hard shifts. Especially when not warmed up and it’s mostly from 1st to 2nd gear. Sometimes it’s pretty jarring. Should I take it in for the hard shifts and hope they do the flush?

Take it in and tell them it’s doing it, period. Take the copy of the TSB as I noted earlier. Dealer shop to find one that will do it without hassling you if you have to.

What TP2SS and I have said above. Since yours seems to have very low mileage, it isn't super urgent, but the sooner, the better.

The trans should be placed into relearn mode after the flush, and you'll have a chance to "teach" it proper shifts. Mine does not do any hard shifts, cold or warm, and there is no shudder.

Any good dealer will help you out, and in fact as a perk you'll find out in the process which dealer is worth taking your business to---this isn't an emergency service, so you can afford to try a few places before you find a real high quality one.

I bought my 2018 1SS, built 11/30/17, in Feb ‘18 with 7 miles on it. In Dec ‘18 noticed a slight shudder, just under 1200 miles. At first oil change in Jan ‘19, just over 1200 miles, made an appointment with purchasing dealer to verify and do the flush/replacement of the trans fluid. I now have 2875 miles on it, no shudder, tremendously improved shifts. The official GM word is that the older fluids are hydroscopic and in more humid locations are more suseptible to getting the shudder. The newest fluid is not nearly as suseptible to absord moisture and therefore not shudder prone. Time will tell, but I have not heard of shudder returning to cars with the new fluid, other than those that have had the shudder for a very long time and needed replacement of the degraded torque converter.

My 2016 does it whenever I keep my foot on the gas at about 1250-1400 rpm; no matter what gear it's in. Dealer told me nothing showed on picoscope. I'm taking this in to get it done.
