a throttle body.

ill be honest, i am very new to engine upgrades.
is a throttle body worth the price? many tell me it barely makes a difference unless its polished.
currently i have headers, a tune and a cold air inductions intake.
somebody educate me on this, and if it is worth the HP gain, i will pop one on my car.
thanks in advance.

I don't think you will get a big HP gain, but will get a better throttle response.

on phasteks site, it said as long as you have the cai, headers, and a tune or whatever it can give up to 11 hp to the wheels.. and some torque. id love to see more proof.

Here is a straight back-to-back swap test Matt did about a year ago. These results are pretty typical for the SS. 8+ rwhp and 10+rwtq

Here is another on an LS3 Corvette.

Do a search for "vmax", or "ported throttle body". A lot to read, many different opinions, no solid proof either way, although, the consensus is improved throttle response. Your call

Bone stock LS3 down to the paper filter. Properly ported there are gains but the butt dyno wont feel it with a car making this much power stock and the % change after.

It will pick up power and we have proven it w/ our throttle body's and manifold. Combine the two and I guarantee you will feel an increase.

I was thinking of making this my next upgrade but heard it wasn't worth it if you don't already have mods such as headers or cats. The only thing I have is cai.

I do not agree with most people on a ported TB. This is one upgred that does only add a little rwhp/rwtq but FEELS like it adds much more. The improved throttle response was worth every cent! Been in a few stock SS's and between the tune and the TB they are squishy feeling when you are doing anything but WOT. The TB will make the car much more snappy the way it should of come from GM in the 1st place.

You do not need a bunch of supporting mods to benefit from the ported throttle body. You can bolt it on a bone stock Camaro and notice an improvement. If anything, you already have a more efficient intake in front of the throttle body so it makes sense that the throttle body would be your next step in working your way back along the intake tract.

OP -

Something to remember is that you don't necessarily have to add HP to have a car that feels faster, more responsive, etc.

Suspension does not add HP, but it can completely change the feel of your ride and allow your car to take advantage of the HP it already has, same thing applies to tires. My point is, don't just look at HP gains found on a Dyno when making a decision, you can install a mod that adds 20 HP and barely notice it, and then do a different mod that adds 0 HP and makes your car feel completely different. Just keep that in mind when modding your car, measured HP gains should not always be the main priority when deciding on what you want to do. Also some mods will not give you their full benefit until you add other mods, your mods should all be working together towards a common goal.

I hope that helps you.
