Unhappy 2017 Camaro 2SS Complete shutdown and StabilityTrack system issues

Hi Everyone,

I had this weird issue yesterday. When I was parking all of a sudden power steering was disabled, I didn't get any warning on the dash but steering was extremely heavy. Then all the power and electricity of the car went off. There was nothing. I tried starting car again, it worked all fine.

Later this morning when I was waiting on red light, I saw this warning saying "Service required StabilityTrack..." something like this. Then power steering went off for few seconds and then came back.

I am pretty much sure something like this shouldn't happen. Did anyone else experience such issues with 2017 2SS ?

Hmm. When was the last time you changed your battery? I had this happen on my 2013 2ss Camaro when the battery needed to be replaced. When the voltage of the battery becomes low, it will trigger off false warnings.

I did check battery, voltage looks fine. Also shows fine in the car as well. Warnings isn't the big problem actually. Car dying is a big problem. I was really lucky it happened when I was parking. But what if I was on high way or something. Not having any engine power and electric power makes that car a moving coffin for me on the highway.

Loose battery or ground cable.

Sometimes it takes about 3-4 seconds for engine to start in cold morning (around 40F) but voltage is always more than 12.5V (1.25 for each section), once car starts running needle always at the right side of 14 (for 2SS's digital needle thing)

I checked the cables in the trunk and under the hood, all of them seemed fine. Not sure if anything else that I couldn't see is loose.

I took the car to service this morning mentioned all problems. Lucky for me car is still under 3 year bumper to bumper warranty. If it's anything other than battery, it should be covered.

Just got off the call with my service adviser, they said problem was "power steering rack" not sure if that was exactly the name he used but it seems it was causing some sort of sort cut in the system. Which makes sense because both times when engine and all electricity was gone, power steering was the first one giving red flags and dying first.

Luckily they had the parts in stock and replaced them under warranty and I will be able to pick up my car after they take care of alignment.

I didn't know about that. I got this car as "CPO". Not sure why they didn't do the change before, when they were doing inspection for CPO.

The steering recall is recall to corrosion making it fall off, not electrical as far as i know

Just got the car back. Invoice says following:
Quote:
Scanning the vehicle for codes found the steering gear lost com with the EBCM causing the car to shut off. Replaced the steering gear and performed programming and configuration on SPS.
I am not familiar with SPS, but so far problem seems to be fixed. Also they said StabilityTrack issue was both electronic and mechanical. Invoice doesn't include any repair explanation but my service advisor said that they took care of it too.

So the systems Failsafe is to kill the engine when it loses power steering? seems like that could put you in a sketchy situation

Not sure if that was the case but does look like it was. I am just lucky both instances happened low speed and almost no traffic areas. Otherwise car would have been a moving coffin to me.

Not feeling great about seeing these after just buying a new 1le. Shit back in 05 I had power steering issues in a Cobalt SS. Looks like same old GM. Hoping I got a good one
