Axle size ?
On my 2019 SS, I noticed the rear axles, half shafts, are different diameter size.
Why would they do this? I would think they would twist at different rate. No thinking that would be desirable?? Any comments? |

Seen a video of this on a Cadillac.
Different weight between the two half shafts (helps) prevents wheel hop. |

Their torsional frequencies are intentionally mismatched to minimize resonance.
The larger diameter shaft is torsionally stiffer and has a higher frequency. |

I suppose that makes sense. Did you guys just guess that, or you read it somewhere, or are you an engineer that knows about such things?

I think this is an industry wide thing. In effect as Rock It Man said, its the same concept as the old tuning fork thing, you have one that makes one sound, then you hit another thats slightly different shape and length and they end up "eating" each other and canceling out. Same thing applies here, one driveshaft is sized perfectly right compared to the other one. It probably helps things like wheel hop a lot, gets smother delivery of torque for better traction, and helps prevent breaking things.
