There is. The coupe is hard limited to 180 mph and the vert to 155 mph in the tune. Not that anyone will be able to hit 180 mph in a stock SS anyway, unless maybe they go downhill for miles.

Not wanting to try for 155 in my convertible. Maybe with a roll bar or cage. Back in 2016, some guy posted a video of an SS on the Autobahn in Germany hitting 182 indicated. Supposed to have been stock.

SS can hit 180, not a problem.

I believe you, let's see the video If the limiter does kick in, we'll have our irrefutable evidence for OP.

Here is a video for you where Hennessey tested a stock 2016 SS 0-170 mph and it took him just 44 seconds to pull that off....not bad

This car is crazy fast for its price, and always has been. It beats out the Mustang GT being limited to 155 MPH.

Clear 180 MPH run, only exhaust: https://youtu.be/7xOV0YELgCk?t=31
Only 178 MPH due to drag: https://youtu.be/6mHYpuyFxxc?t=62

There was this one guy who managed to reach 183 MPH, but that video got taken down by YouTube.

Besides this valid concern, who drives at the 'track' with the car in tour mode with the cruise control on and set at 85 mph???

Yeah I didn't even look that closely after seeing 134 and the idea that someone would actually be fiddling with their phone (or ANYTHING) while driving that speed in ANY condition at ANY location hit me.......

But after looking at it again, I notice the seat belt indicator on as well.

This guy was seriously asking for a death wish at this moment...... 134 mph, playing with the phone trying to take pictures, no seatbelt.

Definitely someone with more money than brains.

Yup, guess some of us are really rolling the dice out there...

Just make sure you keep your traction and stability control on for the rest of us, god forbid those were off as well at 134+ mph...

Nothing wrong with hitting the track at 134 mph without the traction control engaged. That’s what this car is designed for and why we bought them.

Doing so without 100% of of your attention devoted to concentrating on what you’re doing is stupid and doing so without your seatbelt on can be deadly. Taking f’ing cell phone pictures while at that speed is beyond ignorant and immature.

A tire blowout at speed will almost certainly cause you to lose control without both hands firmly on the wheel at the moment it happens. Even if there’s nothing to hit on the track flipping the car is possible. Without your seatbelt on? Almost certain ejection from the vehicle while flipping.

Just tracking a car alone without wearing your seatbelt is absolutely stupid.

Have seen a video taken on the autobahn with a Euro-model 2017 SS Fifty with M6 and NPP. He reaches 295 km/hr on the speedometer, so that is 184 mph indicated. Don't know what the governor and speedo calibration settings are in a European-market car, but I still think that a USA-market car could get in the region of 180 mph.

Okay, thanks. I just wanted to see the speed governor screen, but the video of the first run ends right when the car reaches 180. The speed limit is definitely set in the tune, I've seen it in multiple stock SS tune files, but it would be a nice confirmation to see the same governor message as on the vert.

Yeah, that's both interesting and encouraging, it means GM were not overstating the max speed even though I'd only seen videos where the car struggled after 170 and topped out at 177-178.

As far as I know from one source, the EU version is limited even more, to 265 km/h (165 mph), so this one must have been tuned. Makes total sense, knowing the EU... I'll try to confirm it from different sources.

Wish there were a place for me to try how deep the rabbit hole goes without breaking the bank.

Both videos were autos and I believe were in 6th gear. I wonder what would happen if one were to shift to 7th. On my dyno chart I'm close to peak HP at 6k but the torque is down. Shifting would give it more torque and maybe a few more mph. Just a thought.

The top speed of the 1LE is lower because the gear ratios are lower....thus limiting the top end
