I daily mine in snow/heat/rain/etc and never see above 180 with my setup. Don't stress it, 180 is fine.

I don't have the tru-cool instead have an Earl's stacked plate unit and my temps run around 162-180 depending on how I'm driving. It will get up to around 180-190 when I am getting on it hard, but when she calms down and cruising she will drop back down to the lower numbers. I am running a Mishimoto 169* Tstat and am running a Circle D 3C pro series 4200-4500 single disc stall.. And this is in 85 degree weather.. I chatted with the folks about trans temps before and after I bought the stall and they told me that the 6l80's like it to be around 170- 180 for optimum operation and getting up to around 200 would not harm it any as long as it doesn't stay there very long and you can get the the temps back down to 180 or so all will be good. 210 and above not good for it.

Ok are you using a dedicated gauge or just going off the center pod gauges.
If using the center pod gauges then it’s a calculated trans temp not an actual temp.
This might be why it shows 180

Sorry was thinking about engine oil temp.

180 is fine.

Novice here

So I’m
Reading about the transmission coolers . I ordered a DERALE Transmission cooler (minus the fan) from the guys over at GWATTNEY PERFORMANCE. Hearing good things about the DERALE PRODUCTS as well as the tru cool 40k . I hear you guys talking about the thermal bypass . Is that something seperate that needs to be ordered or is it just the way the cooler is installed ?

Again there will be differing opinions. I elected to not run the cooler in series with the radiator and wanted to be able to drive it at any outside temperature. If you are running it with the radiator or drive the car during warm weather, it probably will be good without the bypass.

Found out my radiator was busted on the inside.. was mixing coolant and trans fluid.... got it ran to just the cooler and 180 is where it get. It rises a little then cool back down, but I just ordered a radiator to put it back in the equation

Just went and looked at mine and the last line is 320, so I think the line after 180 is about 250 or so. I have a separate gauge on my pillar to monitor trans temp and when 1 time I was really driving her hard several times and the needle was over where you said yours runs my gauge said 230*. Way too hot for these 6l80's.

Thx everybody. Currently I have it ran to the trucool only nexus I had found out that my radiator had a crack in it which was mixing trans fluid and coolant.. replaced radiator but as stated still only running trucool and its at 180. Going to run the radiator back to it and see if that helps it a little more

Running it through the radiator only helps keep the temperature stable and keeps it warm during the winter. That's how I have mine also and it is pretty stable around 170*-180 even in 100* traffic. But like I said before you do have a high stall converter which could make it run a little bit hotter especially in traffic on a hot day.
