Angry Frustrated w Dealer! It's been 3 weeks, still waiting on plastic replacement panel

Hi,

So the plastic panel that folds in and out (and covers the gears when top is down) got mangled by the metal gears when operating the convertible roof. It cracked and has to be replaced and in the meantime I'm driving around town with the metal gears exposed from the top.

Took the car in to the dealership 3 weeks ago and originally the part would arrive in less than a week. It's now been THREE weeks and I'm now being told they don't know when it will arrive and there's nothing they can do to expedite/inquire/track the status. I get it, the holidays slow down the mail, but 3 weeks is a bit excessive, no? Dealership doesn't seem to care how long it takes and it doesn't seem they are doing anything of value to help which is pretty disappointing.

Any ideas?

There was a strike recently…The dealership itself has nothing to do with the problem.

Orders from every dealership and third party backed up during the strike. It's not unexpected for such a backlog to take more time to work off than how long the strike itself lasted.

Welcome to lean manufacturing where having anything in stock is seen as an inefficient cost to be eliminated.

I've been waiting over 2 month for a warranty repair on a failed lifter. Dealership cannot even provide an estimate on when they might receive the parts. Gm rep has been telling me it's been "expedited" for over a month. The longest I had to wait for parts from BMW was 16 days for a driveshaft special ordered from Germany for a car that had been out of production for 10 years.... I hired an attorney, I'll never buy a Chevy again.

I’m not one to lawyer up, but if I were in your shoes, I’d do the same.

Good luck...

Waiting on parts counts as out of service time regardless of what it is. This counts toward the days in your states Lemon Law. I'd look into it. My car was at 27 days and I requested a buyback. Chevy balked and I told them by the time the parts come in and the car is fixed, I will be well beyond my 30 days out of service here in Minnesota. I got a buyback.

Dealership has had my 2016 SS since last September 29th. Initially it was blamed on the strike. Then it went to we are not sure how to fix your issue to now I am waiting for an engineer to come from GM to see if the issue is even repairable. Mind you this vehicle has 6400 miles on it...I have owned Chevrolet Camaro's since 1986 and this situation has brought me to the point of never buying another Chevrolet again.

Same problem with my orders right now. There is plastic part that doesn't fit properly when I put convertible top down.50th badge and chrome plating of door handle is peeling. Dealer said they ordered those but it's been about 2 months now, I did call them multiple times to ask for update yet they didn't receive anything. I know it's not dealers fault but GM is sure taking their damn time.

Another problem is that these parts were still under bumper to bumper warranty when I took the car to service but warranty expired now. They said it will be fixed under warranty when parts arrive but I have this suspicion that they will not do it.

Lucky for me these parts are all cosmetic, except maybe chrome plating. Because sometimes it really cuts your skin when you are not careful.

When the strike breaks, there isn't some magic genie that restocks every dealership with every part they've been waiting on immediately and then begins to produce all of the orders to catch up.
