I checked this one out at a GM show at the engine assembly plant in St.Catherines Ontario. It was a deadly car. I could not believe how loud it was on a cold start. The car was in the GM display. I wish I had have taken more pictures. Pretty deadly.
Correction though, I just noticed it was the CT6 Blackwing. Still a killer machine. This was in 2019. Last edited by Scottyz; 02-15-2022 at 04:24 AM. |

The LT5 should of made it into the ZL1. Chevy for some reason is always a step behind the competition when it comes to power/acceleration, when they can dominate. Throw an LT5 in the ZL1, and it would smack the GT500 and Hellcat Redeyes. Same story last generation. Put the LS9 in the 5th gen ZL1, and it would of been competitive with the last gen GT500 and Hellcat in 2015. But no, Chevy just wont do it, and its so frustrating.
At least with this gen, they aren't as far behind. |

Why would GM put the LT5 in a ZL1? Makes no sense. So it would be faster then a Z06? Then no one would buy a Z06.

So it would be faster than a Hellcat RedEye and GT500. Would of kept it at the front of the pack for the duration of this generation of competing cars. The Corvette held back the ZL1 for 2 generations from dominating. Needlessly to, I don't think it would of hindered Corvette sales. The ZL1 is faster than a base Vette and the same price range, yet there are those that buy the base Vette over the ZL1. Corvette guys wouldn't be swayed to a Camaro because of a trim level offering an LT5.

Uhh... GM is about making money just like all other manf. A ZL1 is a small fraction of their sales. Alot of Previous Z06 owners were already up in arms that the ZL1 got the LT4. I know several people that bought a ZL1 instead of the z06 because of the engine only, now imagine if it had an LT5. GM is not going to take an engine from a 130k ZR1 and plop it in a 65k ZL1. GM has 3 top end totally different high end cars Camaro, Vette, CTS-V, while the competition has 1. Mustang and Hellcats. They have alot more on their plate to balance then the competition.

I have to agree with everyone saying it won't happen. However, just to make it a possibility for you I will buy a 2022. With my luck, not only will they use the LT5 for 2023 but will bump it to 800hp lol

According to GMAuthority GM considered using the LT5 In the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing but decided against it. The article claims that there were too many challenges fitting it into the Alpha chassis. It would be awesome but it seems unlikely that the LT5 will be offered n a Camaro.

All I'm saying is, the Hellcat Redeye has a 797 hp engine with a 2.7 blower on it, the GT500 has a 760 hp engine with the 2650 blower on it, and the ZL1 gets the LT4 that makes 650 hp with a tiny 1750 blower, meanwhile chevy has the LT5 in their arsenal. Wouldn't it make the Camaro more competitive with it's competition if it had that engine in it? I didn't look at the sales figures, but I'm willing to bet the Hellcat definitely outsells the ZL1. Maybe not the GT500 because of the mark up, but still. Spoke to a Hellcat owner that a ZL1. He said if Chevy put the LT5 in the ZL1, he'd be in another Camaro right now. I know it's not going to happen, just making conversation. I still think it would of been a good idea. The Camaro would of definitely been making headlines. |

An enterprising soul could build one but would be very expensive and a company has already done that anyway! I think it topped out around $200,000.

That's true, Greg. But if going the d.i.y. route, it's ridiculously easy to get LT5 power from an LT4.
