You don't need to invest 20k into a SS to make stock ZL1 power. Sure there are going to be shops that offer grossly over inflated quotes to make average power. A lot of these shops don't want to take a car in as a project unless they are spending big money these days. I could take a SS and make 550whp for 6k. LT4 supercharger used 1500.00, LT4 install kit 3k, Install and tune 1500.00. DO the labor yourself and save a rack. LT4 supercharger works well on the LT1 for modest power levels being you can spin it slower with a larger pulley and make ZL1 power more consistently. For another 1200.00 you could put the LT4 fuel system in and run E60 and make 600whp pretty easy on 7-8psi.

This, I have a 1000+ twin turbo car for about what a ZL1 costs.

Even buying a new blower like a Whipple or Maggie and you might have 12,000 in it. If you can do the labor yourself less then that

If you are running 100% meth I would reconsider. Pump gas and meth is a common combination that burns up a lot of these stock LT1's. While the Meth may lower IAT's it is actually increasing cylinder temps and that causes rings to expand. No bueno on a engine with tight ring gaps to begin with. My advice would be to do LT4 fuel system and run E60 and meth. The E will pull heat out of the cylinder and keep the rings from expanding.

Yeah, I'm new to the boost scene for personal use but I knew that was high for me. He wanted to do all the internals pretty much from the heads up. Just not looking to drop that much, my wife would probably divorce me and take the car anyway, lol.

570 max on stock fuel system

A Whipple or Magnuson with LT headers JRE LT4 Fuel system upgrade can easily do 600 RWHP and also support up to E60 fuels.

We did one last week 620 RWHP on 93.

Add our Terminator cam and 700+ is Easy.

Feel free to call me with any questions or one of our Super Street Brawler packages.

Excellent results, plenty of fuel and octane go a long way on these LT1s, Pray tune never hurts either

At what point do you get concerned and advise a customer to upgrade pistons? Have you ever tried pushing an LT1 toward the 900hp numbers you're getting out of the LT4 builds?

Note earlier in the conversation I said Double stock HP.

Above double I prefer to upgrade the internals.

I know I can make 900 RWHP on a stock long block on high quality fuel, proper fuel supply, and tuning but I expect it won't last very long, it would be a dyno queen.

The biggest hurtle is the DI fuel supply cost.

We have been 2 1/2 times stock power on LS many many times and the LT is actually a better foundation.

Ted.

I've always wondered, at what point do you need to upgrade the valvespings to prevent valve float under boost? I know LS truck engines really need it at anything past 10 psi but how do the LT1 valvesprings stack up?

We run in to octane and fuel system limitations before valve springs.
