Yesterday I made a return trip to the dyno at Tick Performance.
This is the first run with the exhaust and zero calibration changes. Yes, I was shocked too!! Next we installed the Chevrolet Performance cold air kit (84355716) and race filter (84329125). We then made a pass without changing the calibration. We instantly noticed a loss in HP. The increased air flow had caused the tune to run pretty rich. I guess that's why Chevrolet includes a calibration with this kit.... At this point we decided to look at the calibration. Before we started we drained the "dealer installed" gas. Five gallons of VP C10 were poured in the tank. We then adjusted the tune closer to the original O2 readings. Our HP came back along with a couple more! Our final modification was the cars first oil change. We changed the filter and added six quarts of Mobil 1 0/20 full synthetic. We fine tuned the calibration a little. In all we made twelve dyno pulls. The results tell the tale of how good this combination of parts really is! Huge thanks to Jonathan Atkins for sharing his patience and wisdom on what was meant to be a day off. I have known Jonathan almost since he first started Tick Performance and can tell you that he is one COOL DUDE! There are not many people who I will let work on my cars. I am honored to call him my friend. Last edited by gump; 11-24-2018 at 11:30 AM. |

Thanks for posting the weights of the parts that were removed.
Since this has already been done, what is the end goal for you ?

Maybe I can help some save a little money on their builds? Too often parts are replaced because some other guy has an "internet record". Which means they must be needed, right? |

This one made 396. We laid my graph over the baseline from Ticks Gen 6 A8 car and it was almost identical. Within one on both HP and torque.
Experience says that different dynos (and dyno operators) will give different numbers on the same car. The drag strip will tell the true tail. That said, the only real comparison of two cars is at the same track side-by-side. |

I run the VP MS 109, that's my VP dealer recommended. My car is Magnuson supercharged and I can run about 25-26 degrees of timing plus I run the AEM meth/water with 2-1000 cc nozzles.

The fuel helped reduce the amount of spark retard that we saw on the first run and allowed a little more timing. It is 100 octane. This will be in the car all next year for consistency. The reason that I chose C10 is that it is the spec. fuel for the Chevrolet Performance DR525 crate motor. It is available at most NMCA races. IMO, running E85 is like running a small shot of nitrous..... |

"We changed the filter and added six quarts of Mobil 1 0/20 full synthetic."
Shouldn't that be 10 quarts?

For drag racing their can be a windage advantage to running less/lighter oil. It's hard to know exactly how much is in there, because I am sure there was still residual oil in the cooling system. It did keep good oil pressure.
As a side note. I run five quarts of 0/20 in the 6.2 DI motor in my COPO. It has 100's of passes and has run a best of 9.08 @ 146 N/A (3100 lbs). |

After a very wet start to the year in North Carolina we were finally able to have our first test session last Thursday!
These runs were made with the completely stock drivetrain. It is crazy how consistent this car was on the stock tires. I think that if it were deep staged you could do pretty well in local bracket races. The next test will be with the headers, air box, etc. on the stock chassis....... Last night we tested the car at Shadyside with the headers, air box, etc. that we dynoed at the end of last year. Has it really been that long?!!
This was with the stock tires. So, the results were pretty much as expected. No traction! Note that the car was almost .10 faster from the 330 to the 660 over the baseline test. We are making power. The next step will be to install the small brake kit, axles, driveshaft, cradle bushings, and slicks. Last edited by gump; 07-19-2019 at 10:13 AM. |
