Alternator question

Hey folks. I've had my 2ss for 3 months now and am head over heels in love. One interesting thing I have found is the varying voltage in the car. I have a radar detector that reads voltage in addition to the "gauge" in the DIC. At times they read as high as 15 volts, other times as low as 12.4v Every other car I've had the voltage remains constant when running between 13.5 and 14. This may be a really dumb question, but does the alternator/regulator vary output depending on conditions such as accessories or additional load? I do not have any amps or other items installed except the detector. Thanks!

Yes, the regulator varies the voltage. There are posts here more about this.
I freaked out the first time I noticed the gauge reading lower than 14 volts.

In a word, yes. These new charging systems have a much wider range and are more intelligent. Unlike the older ones that just charge at a specific rate.
Took awhile to get used to!

What the system is really doing is trying to reduce engine load to improve fuel economy.

Why would disarm this system? It improves fuel mileage, Gives You More HP, and has NO other dis-advantage's

Negligible amounts of either, lol.

It's fine until you load it up with a sound system.
