Track Pad Uneven/Tapered Wear

I've used the OEM pads with the 6 pot calipers on the 1LE and usually wear out the inside pads faster than the outside. I switched over to Power Stop pads for the last set and thought I was getting good pad life but then discovered that they were actually wearing down the leading edge to the backer (bottom, where it's hard to get a visual inspection with the wheel on) while barely wearing at the top (~8mm) where I normally inspect the pad. I am able to push all of the pistons back by hand and none seem to have any more resistance than others.

1. Is anyone encountering this with their pads after track usage?
2. Is this normal?
3. If not, any remedies?

Thanks!

Taper is normal part of pad wear. Advice is to flip pads to balance out for max life

interesting, I have never seen that obvious of a taper before. Granted my other camaro is a 02 with a single piston front caliper.

Taper is normal, but that seems more excessive than normal. I flipped my pads once and they wore out extremely quickly after and I've never tried it again. I've heard some people say definitely flip them and I've heard other people are against it, so I'm not sure if I recommend it or not.

Taper is normal, but I agree it looks a bit excessive here. It's probably just a factor of these pads. The PowerStop pads are a street pad and not meant for track abuse. So I imagine that once it starts to taper, the wear on the thinner material will be even faster, thus leading to something like your image. Just my hypothesis...

Agree with this...

That amount of taper is unusually exaggerated, but that could be due to pad compound

yanbags -- interesting hypothesis.

not sure why you think they're not track pads - they're certainly advertised as such. they seemed just as good as the OEM for me on the track. with the taper, they last just slightly shorter in duration vs the OEM. about 8.5 hours on this set.

i can try flipping per UrbanKnight and JA105 and report back in a month or so.

ssmofo -- i'll try to do more left foot braking and less heel/toe to even out the pressure :P

Keep preaching this, I like buying cheap brake pads!

I agree with the second part of the hypothesis though.

As said above. Powerstop is not a true "track pad" regardless of how they advertise

10-4. i guess the same could be said about the OEM pads. other than the taper, i'm enjoying the pads for my track use.
