Wiring Uniden radar detector question for 2019 Zl1?

Hi all,

Brand new ‘19 zl1 1Le owner here since last Saturday. I want to connect my radar using my blendmount. What do I wire it up to? There is a piece behind the mirror on the windshield that I see can be removed and has connections or do I use the passenger airbag panel? What color wire is the 12volt - purple? Any help would greatly be appreciated?

Don't bother, been there done that, wire it to the engine compartment with an add a fuse. Hooking it up to the mirror harness will result in it shutting off every time the traction control activates.

I hardwired my Uniden R3 to my mirror. I have a convertible so it was a much bigger hassle to complete. If you don't have a convertible it as easy as getting some platic interior removal tools and popping of the panel above the mirror. I'm color blind so I don't know what color the wire was but I tested the voltage and found the one with constant power and the ground.

If I can do it by myself, anyone can. I have also never had an issue with it turning off with traction control. I have a 2017 1SS, so maybe there is a difference though???

I wire my Escort 360 MAX C to the cabin lights. It was simple to pull off the cover then I just tapped into the 12V. It turns off once you turn off the ignition and on when you open the door. Easy no need to spend $40 bucks...

I wired my detector in the center mounted ceiling console, per that thread where they do that. I made my own wiring harness by modifying the OEM power cable. Then used stick pins as my contacts and pushed then into the connector. Believe it was purple/white is the hot wire...and black was the ground. Works great, and it is switched power.
Toughest part of the job was using those plastic pry bars to remove that ceiling console for the first time. You really have to pry to get it out the first time.

+1

I did the same thing, works great. I ordered a mirror tap kit off ebay for $9.

Thanks for all the feedback. So I wired my Uniden to one of the the dome lights. Slipped cable behind mirror and hooked up to blendmount - super clean look. Works perfect!

Which blendmount are you using? Blendmount shows that they don’t have one out yet for the 2019 ZL1 with the camera rear view mirror?

Radar Detector wiring for 2019 ZL1

Does anyone know the pin-out configuration or colors of the wires they tapped into for their radar detector?

I have a 2019 ZL1 with PDR and i'm having trouble finding / probing the plugs to get power and ground from. I know someone has a kit to wire from other sources but I'd rather keep everything behind the panel if at all possible.

Also, what is the difference if any between the Uniden models and others? I swap out an older Beltronics R65 and a Uniden R3 with my GM truck with no problems?

Thanks

FYI - on Radar Detector Mirror Tap Wires

I couldn't figure out why I was having so much trouble wiring in the radar detector until I compared my wire to another setup I have. The Uniden and Bel units I have and I imagine most others using an RJ11 plug use the two inner wires, so 2 and 3 of 4 wires. After MUCH wasted time I realized the wire set I was sent was set up to use 1 and 3...... So my plug is missing a ground which should be black instead of the white wire..
