I have a red SS and went 5%. I also had a light silver sedan some years back that I also went 5% - both look amazing.
  I am in Mich. The law here, IIRC, is no darker than 35% on the top 4" of the front windows. Clearly my tint is illegal but I don't get pulled over for it. I've gotten 2 tint tickets in the 15 years I've been driving tinted vehicles. I have also had 15% and it looks nice as well.

I have 5% all windows and 35% full windshield...it looks amazing in person, and its actually easier to see out the front then you would think...
