Completely unnecessary, unless the oil computer read out shows it is about done. Then yes, change it before track duty. A while back a member here sent out his Valvoline MST for analysis with 5 or 6 track days on it and it came back with virtually zero degradation. This thread is burried here somewhere and includes the actual full report.

I change mine every 5 track days or so. Incl ediff fluid.
Cheers!

Ediff or rear gear oil? I better look into changing ediff fluid

Diff gear oil as in the main "pumpkin" vs the small electronic assy above it. I believe the latter doesnt need a change for a very long time (if ever?), but i better check that as well.

So this is a good oil to get for DD and track duty? I'll probably swap out every 3000-5000 miles depending on track days

Yes. That is THE oil recommended for track and daily duty on any 2019+ LT1 and is the factory fill.

Techincally speaking ANY 0w40 Dexos 2 is recommended in the 2019 manual. But ya, Mobil 1 and GM struck a deal and it is a factory fill indeed.

Just checking on Amazon, but I am seeing Pennzoil 0w-40 (not labeled as Dexos2) @ $55/6qt, and Amelie 5w-40 labeled as Dexos 2 @ $120/gallon. How critical is Dexos2 vs., the 5w-40 or 0w-40 vs other weights if I am going to track the car a few times this year. There are more Dexos2 options in 5w-30, 0w-20. So, is the weight or the Dexos2 standard more important. Or, are both equally important.

Thanks

Most importantly: go by what is listed in your owner's manual.

Both the correct weights and the Dexos2 are important.
The former to provide proper protection at cold starts and at high motor temps. The latter to ensure GM has approved such oil based on its chemical composition.

For Camaro SS and ZL1 (but not ZL1 1LE) 2019 manual lists 0w40 Dexos2 as being a factory fill and being approved for both dd and track duty, without a need to change it in between.
5w30 dexos1 synthetic is listed as approved for street ONLY.
15w50 synthetic (sans Dexos) is listed as approved for track ONLY.

In prior year manuals 0w40 Dexos2 AND 5w40 Valvoline MST (specifically) are listed as approved for both street and track. Since then the Valvoline MST has also received a Dexos2 license. In addition the other 2 weights were also listed as above for street only and track only use.

0w40 Dexos2 is likely the best all around oil, especially for anyone driving the car all year around as it maximizes cost start protection and provides high protection for high motor temps. But if somebody just dd their car then 5w30 dexos1 is a much cheaper and approved alternative.

5w40 Dexos2 is likely better for warm summer starts while providing hot moror temps protection the same as the 0w40 Dexos2. But it will be a worse choice for cold starts especially under winter conditions.

Mobil1 does not make 5w40 Dexos2 oil. And since Mobil1 and GM have entered into a commercial agreement we now only see 0w40 Dexos2 listed. And for commercial reasons it makes perfect sense, as Mobil1 had to pay GM license fee to have its oil certified as Dexos2. As much as this is now the case and i have seen many Mobil1 marketing efforts around this oil, i have not seen anything directly from GM that would invalidate the choices listed in earlier owner manuals. And since i run my car in summer only and 5w40 Valvoline MST Dexos2 is easily available where i live - that's what i have been using and will continue to use. Unless GM sends me a formal notification invalidating what is in my official owner's manual that the car came with.

In any case, that's my bottom line - according to me. And according to GM as they wrote the manual my car came with

yes and yes

So is that Valvoline advanced MST the same as this Valvoline which is also Dexos approved? If I am not going to the track, is 0W40 supposed to be run on the streets now?

Sounding like if you dd, just use the 5W-30. If you dd and track, use the 0W-40ESP. The 0W-40 is more expensive but it doesn't need to be swapped in and out for track use.
