ZL1 Lug Nut Torque 110 or 140?

Lug Nut Torque 110 or 140?

Manual says 140, seems high to me.
SS guys are saying they have addendums that say 110.

Anyone know for sure?

My wheel studs are NOT blue..

I've done 110lbs and never had a problem.

Several track days events under my belt as well....

6th Gen might be different though...

These cars have 14x1.50 studs and should be 140. I torque mine at 135-140 for street wheels and drag pack setup. I would not do 110, but that's up to you. If they were 12x1.50 they would be 100-110 lbs of torque. I think I'd stick with what the manual says no matter if you think its to high or not. There is a reason why GM thinks that's the correct torque.

I would not want to try and undo those nuts on a rainy night on the side of the expressway trying to change a flat with the jack from the trunk.

Get a Gorilla expandable lug nut wrench to put in the car at least.

But yes, they are 140 ftlbs.

My old torque wrench is too old to use. So I am search of a new one. What is a good one?

Gen 6 Zl1 forum. Even if gen 6 ss or gen5 zl1 has same torque specs or not. We don't need to fish through unrelated stuff. Just saying. My OCD with forum organization is getting to me. Sorry.

I just bought one at Sears, $80 for the 1/2" that goes to 150ft/lbs. The 1/2" digital goes to 250ft/lbs but it was $200.

I purchased a Lowes Kobalt 1/2-in Drive Click 50-ft-lbs to 250-ft-lbs Torque Wrench a few weeks ago. It comes with a hard plastic case to store it. It was on sale for 59.99, but is currently 79.97. It seemed like a very nice quality tool.

It is 140 ft lbs for the 6th Gen ZL1. Sadly, even the service dept at the dealer doesn't torque them. After getting my 2nd set of rear tires put on I asked if the mechanic torqued them and they said no. Rather than bring it back in and wait, I took in to the self-help garage on-base and torqued them myself. Found that most were under-torqued and 3 were over-torqued.

If you drive your car fast, this is a safety issue. Even if you don't, uneven torque can cause the rotors to warp when they heat up. This can lead to brake failure when you need them most.

Hand-tighten first, then snug them all up. Then torque each one just until you hear the click, skipping one lug each time, until there's no more movement.
